KLove market

In West TN outside of Memphis there would be no CCM radio if K-LOVE and WAY-FM hadn't come in because no Christian station in the area would do anything with it until they proved there was an audience for it. Because of that most people only know about the CCM from 2000 on like was mentioned by Crainebo.

A classic CCM station with anything from before 1990 is definitely out of the question in most places where CCM was never heard of before then or faced opposition from churches and radio stations that wouldn't give it a chance. EMF does still have some K-LOVE Classic stations, but even they're mostly AC CCM from the 90's.

The best options I've found for classic CCM have been online like Classic Christian Rock Radio and Dan's station at wpjb.org, although he does a broader range of Christian music at times.
East Tennessee had CCM before K-Love on 2 stations that were sold to EMF. Love 89 was uptempo CCM (now Air 1) and Life 88.3....I forget what but some version of CCM. I seem go remember the morning team being quite popular. The male of the duo joined EMF as their regional representative.

My wife was in a CCM group in the late 70’s, and she and now I are close to several of the members and their spouses. I would definitely want to hear music from the 70s through the 90s on a regular basis, if not as a full-time format.

There's also Full Circle Jesus Music, a monthly classic CCM podcast with close to 300 episodes.

Greg,
What was the group your wife was in? Just curious if it was anyone I had heard of. Thanks!

Ekklesia-they would go to various churches and prisons in both West Virginia and Ohio. However, unsurprisingly, some churches would not let them perform, including my wife’s former church.

Even the mighty Spirit 105.3 in Seattle didn't start their CCM format until 1996. The old KBIQ Edmonds was B/EZ and a bit of Christian instrumentals, but no DC Talk, Amy Grant, etc.

It seems like I might have heard of them. The Baptist church I grew up in only allowed the softest CCM that they thought was "acceptable," definitely no pop or rock oriented CCM.

As I'm posting, did some more digging in the crates and found even more "Forgotten Classics" I intend to play. Stay tuned for some more great songs from Mr. Charlie Peacock, Derek Webb, Ghost Ship, Chris Rodriguez, dcTalk and Amy Grant. As of now, we're already playing some tunes from Mr. Peacock, Ms. Grant, dcTalk and Mr. Webb (Featured On Caedmon's Call First CD, Which I'm Playing As Of Now) but intend to add more of their gems to the mix.

P.S. Ghost Ship and Chris Rodriguez will be a new add for me. Want to make sure we play those musicians that have largely been forgotten about. I like what I have from these two performers and believe they'll be a perfect fit for the broadcast.

B.T.W. For those who like Mitch McVicker, Wayne Kirkpatrick, Flyleaf's Remember to Live 7 Song EP, Journey Proud and Pocket Full Of Rocks, I have your need for them covered. Just added that CD (Flyleaf) and some of their tunes, a few days ago.

As you can tell, I'm giving the classics a big time platform on this radio station. Glad to know these songs are still liked and loved by many.

And...For those who listen to the stream, I want to say thank you and hope you've enjoyed it so far. ...The best is yet to come! :)
