KLRZ still on the air

It actually came back on air after about 2 days off air... Right now they are distributing information for mainly the south lafourche parish area currently on air during the day and swamp pop at night.

On the Bayou, only 2 stations are still giving out information, KLRZ 100.3 and KXOR 106.3

Surprisingly, the computer that normally runs KXOR is running on KJIN 1490am .. Takes you back to the 1970's hearing AOR (albet now classic) on AM for those who are nostalgic like that.

Actually, I found KCIL 107.5 giving more information than KXOR. Most of last week 106.3 was off the air. 96.7 most of the time was carrying dead carrier or it was completely off. I did notice that KJIN was broadcasting classic rock on their station.

What is going to happen with TV in the triparish area?

Will the tri-parish cable systems pull Fox 44 in Baton Rouge to fill the Fox void left by WVUE being off the air for a couple of months if not a year (I am not worried about ABC, NBC, or CBS because they are covered by 2,9, and 33 in Baton Rouge on most cable systems.)?

Could this be HTV's chance to finally get a major network affiliation and move from a class A to full power?

WVUE is currently broadcasting from its Fox sister WALA from Mobile; while WVUE's tranny is off the air, they're probably still broadcasting to cable systems via satellite (are they?).

Where studio space is concerned, WVUE is on one of the highest points in New Orleans, in an area that was not flooded, meaning that only that the restoration of utilities and the repair or replacement of outside equipment's an issue.

Remember These are all Guaranty stations and 107.5 was the first station brought back on line. As the others were brought back online, they started relaying C-107 for about half a day before KBZZ 96.7 and KCIL 107.5 were brought back to normal programming. What's on KXOR 106.3 is mainly for the refugees from New Orleans and the few still without in the area.

KJIN is just broadcasting what is being lost over KXOR...real cool if you think about it hearing the classics how you originally heard them in the 70's (on stations like WTIX "the mighty 690" and WNOE)..I've noticed no sat programming on the stations also..misalign on the dish?

In the near term, There are three choices, Pull WGMB 44 from Baton Rouge (which can be done considering all the cable companies in the Bayou area already carry at least 2 Baton Rouge channels), make people suffer without fox or carry the Fox national feed. Either 44 or Fox network will be on I think somehow, probably in a few weeks, If not look for a lot of pissed off saints fans..

Actually in the near term, I think some of the New Orleans stations may become translators in the interim once they are running again (due to damage to the studios like WWL-TV) unless the parent companies bring in trucks to run the boards off of.... WVUE is trashed for a while as it's off a mainframe in Florida and will require making all the connections working again (unless they bring in new boards as rumors around that the boards were taken after central cast began)

I know WWL lost it's studio, I'm not sure on the others, I know WGNO and WNOL moved into a new highrise in New Orleans (but the damge is unknown..I know their transmitter was under water)

Yeah but does Martin Folse want it? Technically he probably could have got UPN because WUPL 54 is on the other side of the lake from us (and only comes in by cable or very high antenna).... But I figure he is enjoying being the community station (cable channel that has 2 class A licenses) he is.

I did put a topic on the National board http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=530378&Board=tv-usa about what will happen in communities once the DTV is permamnent. Here in Lafourche/Terrebonne , our viewing may actually change from New Orleans stations to Baton Rouge as the signals from BR stations would possibly come in better... This lack of coverage I think will affect us on the bayou.

Only fixes will be to put up translators of those stations either from New Orleans or Baton Rouge in the Houma/Thibodaux area or recruit owners wanting to move into a market that is bigger than Lake Charles,Monroe, and Alexandria. That would be difficult considering the money right now to put a tv or numerous stations online in a place even if they were Class As (having to staff etc)

If we keep 20% of the refugees from New Orleans (ones buying houses here etc.) It may be a market to build a local TV station with a affliation (like ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX)..actually I'd like to see a Pittman or a Guaranty try it here but will it happen, who knows... but I think the TV stations in New Orleans better realize who's gonna be buttering the bread for the next 2 years while the rest of the area recovers and take care of us.

Last time I checked, not here in Thibodaux anyway... dead air on cable... By dish/Direct ? as St.Charles cable system I think is tied to Jefferson's

Biggest thing may be the central cast unit here huh?

Another thing is WVUE is on the block and is gonna be hard to sell I think now even though it was high and dry..

They were immediately before the storm.
As of now no Fox here!

Yeah right! I saw WAFB interview a Fox 8 photographer and show video inside the station. The water got up to the news desk. Everything inside is pretty much toast.

Fybush's site (http://www.fybush.com/featuredsite.html) said it -- I didn't:

WVUE's studios are the most likely to survive. They're not pictured here, but they're built well above ground off I-10 at Jefferson Davis Parkway, west of the CBD.

I am very pleased. During these trying times we need to preserve as much of the New Orleans/SE Louisiana music and culture as possible. Swamp Pop/Zydaco/R&B definitely included.

There are actually others who are preserving it also. KLRZ was the first with a swamp pop heavy format (which has lead to 1 other company copying the format and 1 company has actually started mixing the swamp pop with country music)

But the other swamp pop station is KMRC 1430 Morgan City http://www.kmrc1430.com
Another with a flavor of all with some country is KBON 101.1 Mamou http://www.kbon.com

Actually while WNOE from New Orleans is down, I'm catching KBON direct about 1/2 of the time here on the Bayous SW of New Orleans

KJIN flipped back to sports about 1pm or So today as KXOR was back to Classic Rock. Surprisingly they were both braodcasting classic rock this morning with all the Eagle liners on KJIN BUT the output on AM was completely different than KXOR 106.3

I guess fybush doesn't realize that Jefferson Davis Parkway is near the middle of the bottom of the bowl below sea level.
