KLTH/Portland, OR Turns Off 'Lite' For Classics With 'K-Hits'

From Radio and Records: http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2006_01_10/klthportland.asp

"CBS Radio at noon yesterday flipped AC KLTH (Lite Rock 106.7) to an Oldies station focusing on the hits of the 1960s and '70s, as "K-Hits 106.7." CBS Radio/Portland, OR is marketing the station as Classic Hits, and the 1pm hour featured songs from Steve Miller Band, Len Barry, Eric Clapton, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, John Fred & His Playboy Band and King Harvest, among other artists."

The rest of the story is online.

Apparently, the station is more Classic Hits leaning, but I'm sure there is some "oldies feel" in the mix. I'm surprised CBS Radio did this!

How is the station sounding?

This station is not Classic Hits leaning. Please see Oldies thread.

I saw the oldies thread. According to some people in the area, it sounds very much like oldies. I'm surprised.

I've recently discovered K-HITS 106.7 FM (KLTH) on the web. What a friggin great station. Sure beats the hell out of the two oldies stations in Seattle! I hear that Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders fame is going to be hosting a live show on Saturday nights beginning in November. That should be a lot of fun! I only wish I could get K-HITS on my car radio up here in Seattle!

Great sounding radio station. I am new to the market, but it sounds much better than KBSG or KJR-FM in Seattle. Nice signal strength too.

That station was good as "the River" (If I'm on the right frequency) Some Portland radio formats have as good a chance as Brittney Spears husbands!

Wrong frequency. The River was on 105.9 and is now Smooth Jazz, which used to be on 106.7, 2 formats back, which is the right frequency.

The djs sound pretty AC. Not a huge amount of personality or energy, sounds pretty corporate and bland. They have some drop-ins which also sound AC or even NPRish, not top 40. Music is mostly 70s. Also kind of lite on the promotional end.

The jocks are a little bland, but I still like them. I really enjoy the music. This is the station I have on in the car a majority of the time and it is set on my alarm clock and kitchen radio! I would listen at work, but we have K103 on.

Oh how I envy you PDX'rs. I would have K-Hits on 24/7 if I lived in that town. I am stuck in Seattle with the crappy KBSG and KJR FM stations. I am hoping that with the change of PD at KBSG perhaps they will give K-Hits a listen and swing that way. Right now they are sounding exactly like KJR. Twin stations very close together on the dial. 70s and 80s Classic Hits. KBSG needs to dump 80s and do strictly 60s and 70s.

The K-HITS music is good... a very broad selection of the 60s and 70s.

However, the jocks mostly sound like MOR announcers... no spontaneity, not much personality or energy, in stark contrast to the DJs who originally played these tunes. Makes for a rather odd contrast between the music and the air presentation.

The station also lacks cool production and promos, much of the presentation just lies there like a flounder.

It's just strange that it would be such a flat presentation in such a creative and happening market.

Why?
