KLTO simalcasting the beat

Right now KLTO is simalcasting the beat, dont know if this will change, but it would give Victoria a rimshot hiphop station if they keep it this way. Since 100.9 fliped to Rock a while back.

Very bad rimshot too.

What's the plans for this station? I checked it out and at first, I saw no changes, but then they Id'ied as The Beat 98.5.
I really see Univision either selling (because it is a bad signal) or becoming "La Que Buena"

Strange as it sounds KBBT is behind KLTO, how does that happen?? KLTO has not launched yet on KBBT HD-2 much less there is not a HD-2 channel yet on KBBT.

That's probably because of the HD delay on KBBT in order to synchronize with its HD channel. I think the delay is like an 8.1 (or 7.1) seconds.

This used to be the same thing with Houston's KPTY and KPTI back when it was on 104.9's HD.

I wonder how much of a effect it will make with KLTO on HD-2 only now. I'm thinking about ditching my HD Radio for a while to many drops even after I fixed my antenna.

Well, true but it's almost the same rimshot (signal wise) as San Antonio, according to Radio-locator.com. So that could be what they were thinking. This way they could cover two markets and also get their hip hop into San Marcos which I believe is covered in the Austin Arbitrons. So basically by putting their station on 98.5 and 97.7, they're (partially) covering three different markets at the same time.

Very smart in my opinion. But I question the ethics of it I (and maybe legallity).

The last time I was in Victoria KLTO came in pretty good most all of the city, but I wasnt downtown. That may do good, since The beat KEPG in Victoria was the top 5 in the market, after they fliped to rock I heard MANY were mad.

I really don't see this as Univision's plan. The Beat is directed towards San Antonio and Univision is not the type of company that would dedicate itself to a small market like Victoria.

Especially since I have had problems with KBXX splattering all over KLTO with a GM factory radio.

Straight off of the La Kalle myspace! wow, I almost fell out of my chair from laughing. Who would have thought?

LA KALLE 97.7 IS WHERE LATINOS LIVE!

FAQ's: What happened to La Kalle 97.7?
Answer: Univision Radio decided that La Kalle 97.7's ratings were better than expected, so much so it cut into some of 98.5 The Beat's ratings and Univision wants to protect its "moneymaker" station, so La Kalle was moved 98.5 HD2 only available on an HD Radio and The Beat is now simulcasted on 97.7 to keep La Kalle's ratings for itself.

That's some funny stuff. Somebody be sure to ask David E. about it next time he shows up.

i looked up the fcc site, rawhide broadcasting owned by univision has a station in llano,tx 96.3 kajz adult standards.

I love La Kalle and will continue to listen to it since I have HD but I have my doubts on the above answer.

Also, I don't see The Beat continuing the simulcast on 97.7. A new format will land on 97.7. When? dunno. However, I wouldn't be to surprise if it happens to be an English format or even a bilingual format. San Antonio Hispanics are 2nd and 3rd generation Hispanics which is different from the other three major markets in Texas.

Radio and Records' latest Arbitron scores doesn't seem to agree with the statement on that FAQ page. Overall, KLTO-FM got only a 1 share (1.4). But Univision sure has a good PR department for their website.

....Except for the last line that is.

KBBT's ratings are down (slightly) but they're still #1. I think what's happening is Power 106.7 is finally starting to take a small piece of The Beat's ratings and they're blaming it on La Kalle in order to not give in to Power. By simulcasting KBBT on 97.7, they're guaranteed to pull in higher ratings by the next period because of how far 97.7 goes Northeast of SA.They'll get their SA audience, plus alot of small towns as well. So when the ratings are higher for KBBT next time, they'll say "See, it was because of La Kalle and it worked to move them to our HD 2 station." When really we know that wasn't the case.

I doubt it as well that The Beat will stick around on 97.7. I see it more as trying to redirect the La Kalle Listeners to 98.5.

While it is true that San Antonio is built of 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics, I see it hard to make another bilingual format. They just tried Reggeaton and they already have Tejano. My guess is they take a shot at Amor again.

But don't be sruprised if they take a shot at an English station (as saradio1 said). I've enjoyed Univision's version of Classic Rock in Albuquerque. I am aware that they didn't create the station (since they bougt it as a classic rock format) in Albuquerque, but I see San Antonio as an exemption since it has a very unique population of Hispanics. Perhaps maybe going after Jammin to try to completely run BMP out? They do have a rythmic AC station in Albuquerque as well (B-101.7).

Bingo. Amor would be disastrous on KLTO, unless they put it back on KCOR. Fragmenting KISS makes more sense to me.

Well I am done with HD for now, I cant DX it with either of my HD Radios good enough to hear it. I wont listen to it or buy another product from it I liked some of the stuff La Kalle played, but I tried hard enough to DX HD, fixed adapters etc. Nothing seems to help. I guess I wont be listening to La Kalle any more.

Here are my guesses in order of likelihood:

1. KLTO remains simulcasting KBBT.

2. KLTO becomes "Recuerdo" & KCOR returns as "Amor"

3. KLTO becomes Rock.

4. KLTO is sold to the highest bidder.
