KLTU 88.1 moves tower location

KLTU 88.1 should have moved to their new tower location by now I think. The license to cover was granted on 07/26/2012. Can anyone confirm by their driving or where they live?

Their old tower location was near Mt. Lemon so they had no signal on the northwest side of Tucson. The new tower location on the east side of Tucson, 1939ft, 16kw DA C1, was meant to correct that. I have family in northeast Tucson and have observed the no signal on the northwest side will driving. I imagine the signal is better now all over.

Why would any station choose a tower near Mt. Lemon over a tower on the east side if they had a choice because of the signal being blocked into northeast Tuscon from Mt Lemon while the towers on the east side do better all over? Or are they signals near Mt Lemon that do make it to the northwest side?

I know all TV stations are near Mt. Lemon and then have to have a translator on the northwest side. Why not just have the main signal on the west side? Does having a location on Mt Lemon that much better even with not reaching the northwest side?

I think if a station had a strong signal on the west side it would have been best in my experience rather than having to have 2 signals to cover eveywhere.

thanks

Just a guess but the Mt. Lemmon (actually Mt Bigelow) site is an old long established site. The east side site, (I assume the Tucson Mt.) was just built about 20-25 years ago. When we put KWFM up there people scoffed, but it later proved it's worth. Some people just move slower than others, and I suspect from sad experience, that the new site is a lot more expensive than the old one.

I agree, all stations, including DTV should move their transmitters to the tucson mnts, all the stations located there I pick up better.
