Why did KLTV have to start this "Your East Texas News Leader" stuff? I thought for sure they would just let their on-air product speak for itself. I actually enjoyed watching their news and not being subjected to stuff like that. I still watch 'em, but I'm more inclined to channel surf now than I used to.

Anybody know anything about it????

I don't, but I'm not really surprised....so many stations have gone the overblown-silly-stupid-catchphrase route anymore. I tend to mute or change channels if a station gets on a tangent like that. You would think that 7 would be satisfied with having more viewers than the other 2, but.... Could this new 'descriptiveness' be a Raycom thing, now that they own 7?

Well, it certainly doesn't seem logical to me. KLTV was doing just fine without the addition. But since when has logic really dictated what is done in the broadcast world lately?

Wait....didn't KYTX already have that slogan?

Well at least when KLTV says it, it is true. KYTX is far from being a news leader. They may have the most local newscasts, but ratings wise, no one can touch KLTV.

And, I agree, they need to stick with "Proud of East Texas". That has been the KLTV standard for many years, and it is a good slogan.

From what I recall KYTX uses the phrase "Your Local News Leader" because they claim to broadcast more local news stories than the other news stations in the market. I believe you are confusing them with KETK who has the most local newscasts in the market. As for KLTV, I think the slogan is a too similar to what is already being used in the market. Undoubtedly, this was calculated.
