KLTV Promo

I just saw a weather promo on channel 7. One of the lines of the promo said "when severe weather comes through East Texas we are live and local"

Is this supposed to be a slam against the other tv stations or against radio stations that use voice-tracking?

It doesn't make sense to slam the other tv stations. Even though channel 7's coverage may be better doesn't mean that the other stations are not on the air covering the severe weather too. And for tv to slam radio doesn't make much sense either. I don't think the general public turns to radio first for severe weather information...unless they are in their car or some other place away from a tv.

It just seemed weird to me that now tv is having to tell people they are live and local.

TV has voice tracking too. I dunno if it's being done in the E Tx market....but some TV stations have anchors that are in other cities. A couple local reporters...send the copy down the pipe, and viola'...

More hype. Channel 7 wants viewers to think no other station has sense enough to look at the weather when it gets bad and report on related events.

Their "Channel 7 Emmy Award winning news" promotions were worded to have viewers believe KLTV won the only tw0 television Emmy Awards given out in the world and nobody else would ever get one. The promos used canned video from the emmy people and a loaded voice over that led uninformed viewers to think every other station in the country might as well quit doing news.

Overall, KLTV does a nice job in news but their news/WX promotions have taken some heavy license.

It's just a catch-phrase. With the new squeezebacks, and their new attitude towards drops and make-goods, KLTV has committed to going live with breaking weather whenever the situation warrants, without ever having to worry about interrupting programming.

Which is pretty much what the other stations have done too, but if your promotions department is first to strike, you get to claim it.
