Hello All

What is going on with KLTY? They sure are playing a lot of crossovers lately. They've been playing these non-christian artists:

U2
Hoobastank
Rascal Flatts
Daughtry
Lifehouse

KLTY has actually been playing these "crossover" artists for a long time. I'll have to see their mix in the rotation....but yeah...nothing real new.

What has been going on is a decades long attempt by the Christian music industry to "tone down" the tempo of CCM and make it more "praise and worship" than cutting edge. It works where they have a captive audience like Houston, but KLTY has to compete with Power FM and other stations in the area that would gladly make deep inroads into their audience, given the chance. Perhaps KLTY is putting these songs with good messages by secular artists into the mix rather than playing praise and worship clunkers they know would alienate their audience.

What is needed is more CHR Christian songs, and hopefully the advent of widespread streaming will finally force the praise and worship initiative right off the air for good. Never have so many kids, so many good Christian rock and Christian CHR artists been hurt so badly by the anti-CCM and anti-Christian rock crowd. I applaud KLTY for have the courage to say "enough" to this praise and worship cr@p.

Isn't playing those artists defeating the purpose of KLTY's format?

Not at all. The songs fit the format.

Whatever it is, it must be working. Didn't they just win a Marconi?

Surprised no one took notice of that on here. Oh right...

They, too, have more Marconi's than Marconi ever won!

That promo cracked me up. Stay sportsy my friend.

(and yes, what's wrong with mixing in a little secular music. Maybe somebody hears the U2 and sticks around for the more mainstream CCM music)

Plus, last I checked, Daughtry and Lifehouse were Christians. And at least 2 members of U2.

KLTY is a Christian AC outlet that targets the same audience that AC KVIL does -- suburban, white moms in there 30s/40s. It has been mixing in the periodic secular AC hit (Lifehouse/"Hanging By A Moment," The Fray/"How To Save A Life", etc. for years). The presentation, DJs, etc. are almost interchangeable between the two stations.

KVRK "Power FM"'s playlist influences KLTY's about as much as KEGL and KDGE's does KVIL's. Different demos being targeted.
