There is already an 'oldies' station in Indy - it's called Q95. Many have tried, many have failed to take it's audience away. If agencies want to hit that crowd, they are going with Q. JAK is another option. This town isn't big enough to accommodate a 'deep cuts' station.

The TRUE oldies (50s music) was big 20 years ago because those listeners (who lived that era) were in their 40s and 50s. They are now in their 60s and 70s and listen to talk radio.

Doesn't matter how WELL you do it, it will not sell in Indy. Unless you can find enough Mayberry Cafes' to support it - and they aren't out there. If you're trying to be an Indianapolis station, you can't survive without agency money (except for Byrd who can sell enough CHICKEN to reCOUP his massive losses).

A 5-6 share in this town for oldies? Can't happen in this day.
IF you think Q-95 is an OLDIES Station, you don't know WHAT the hell you're talking about when it comes to this format, so i can understand WHY you've posted the stupid things you have. everybody ignore the HO on this subject.

IGNORE THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!!

The average age of the songs played on WFBQ is 32. They play a lot of songs that are over 40 years old. Call it classic rock if you will, but those songs are midwest oldies.

When do they plan to flip to K-Love.

As soon as possible, I hope. Indianapolis needs a contemporary Christian music station that covers the entire market.

Redundant question here...forgive the run on sentence.

Have you ever had a radio station that you worked for, poured your heart and soul into and truly loved sold to a new owner - knowing full well that said new owner would be changing format and putting out of work a staff you respect and consider it an honor to work with?

Almost makes you rethink that "as soon as possible" I hope.

Your second paragraph describes exactly happened to me back in 2003 and if that is what's about to happen to you, then no, I'm not happy about that aspect of it at all.

I started working for Radio One Five Hundred on May 26, 1980, when they only owned WBRI but ONLY because the FCC was about to approve the company's purchase of the Plainfield FM station which was to be a contemporary Christian music formatted station. I was hired to be the Program Director to design the station's format from the ground up, from Day One forward. Talk about pouring one's heart & soul into something! I was still working there in sales on the final day, June 30, 2003. The owners sold WXIR/Love 98 to ABC which turned it into Radio Disney on July 1, 2003. There were still people on staff who'd worked there since 1979, 1982 & 1983 with whom I'd no longer be working again. So yes, I know how you feel.

i was ignoring you, just wanted to set the record straight on Q-95

"OLDIES" is a generic term. If you're going to split hairs, then you need to distinguish between Golden Oldies, Classic Oldies, etc.

Q95 plays Classic Oldies, the same format Oasis tried with 101.9.

Golden Oldies will never fly again - much like Big Band.

for former listeners of KLU "The track" will NOT satisfy them, its another "Jack" like format without PERSONALITY. i think Indy will get another "Classic Hits" station and IF they do it right, it could be a top 2 or 3 station like WGRR in Cincy.

Q-95 is doing a "Classic ROCK" format, that features Album Rock tracks that come from the late 60's-70's 80's that for the most part were not played on Top-40 radio. there is no format known or called "Golden Oldies". the "format" -"Oldies" is being phased out and is now being called "The Greatest Hits Of All Time" or "Classic Hits" and features Top-40 hits from the 60's & 70's(and now moving into some of the 80's).. and "Real Oldies" is another offshoot(syndicated and licenced by abc) that features "some" late 50's music thrown into the mix)...

Ok Guys...Here's the facts concerning The demise of WKLU..Russ Oasis who owns the station cannot compete with the add rates of the Clear channels and Emmis and others...WKLU is a stand alone FM. A stand alone fm connot play ball like the big guys..The Format at WKLU showed to be the most consistant book to book over any Indianapolis Station. Russ bought the old WFMS building in Castleton where the station presently sits..Adding costs to run the station and to payoff the building it's just not practical to continue..I spoke to Russ about the sale of WKLU and he's hurt to give it up. He loves indy and would come back with another radio property mayby someday..As for the buyer Education Media Foundation,,,They already own 90.5 and have a translator in speedway at 100.1 not active yet...They have more radio properties and translators with over 100 now pending..Why do we need another God station here? If I was running the FCC the god outfits would nolonger be permitted to own and operate any station anywhere...Religion is a personal thing and should be treated as such. Not a way to serve itself and beg for money...Does a religious station operate in the public interest? No. Will it give you traffic local traffic reports? No. local news and weather? No. It will brainwash you. Yes. Call or write to the FCC and voice your opinion..It's our airways to loose.

This is ridiculous Russ. First of all, obviously there are people who DO listen to religious programming. Who are YOU to tell them they should not have that option because YOU want to play radio? If they can pay their bills, they have just as much right to be on air as you.

Are we going to cut out all country music because you don't like that either?

98.7 FM WQME in Anderson. Contemporary Christian music on a full service station. Traffic from metro during both drive shifts. Weather from Paul Poteet 24/7. Local News and Local/Regional sports during drive shifts. Only stations located in Madision county with backup generators at the transmitter and studio sites. Format breaks to cover severe weather.

Not perfect by any means, but better than most satellite religious stations and still making a profit.

Of course, K-love doesn't provide this kind of service, for this reason I dislike them, not because they are religious.

So what does this all mean for the future of WTTS, the remaining stand alone commercial FM in the market?
