KLUV 98.7 New Positiioning "CLASSIC HITS"

No longer is KLUV the Oldies station-- they have removed themselves from the HD format completely with new positioning-- now they are the "CLASSIC HIT STATION".. makes more sense-- that opens up a wide variety of music from the 60's through the 90's I would assume!

Could it be that someone finally got something right with this format?

Just a thought--

I found even more interesting; that KLUV went "harder" classic singles with the demise of Platinum rather than softer. Although I loved much of what I heard on Platinum musically (Examples are the Pet Clark singles, etc.) I think what this demise and KLUV's change means is that with rare exceptions; popular songs before 1970 or so are now going to be relegated to the AM dial.

Although I will miss much of the music on Platinum; I will not miss the weekend driving with just the on-air imaging without anyone in the studio to talk. I think, and I understand the corporate view; that the lack of air personalities truly hurt the station. Let's face it, being live and local from 5AM to 7 PM cuts off a great deal of the day. Shoot, even KLUV at least has gone back to John Summers V-Ting a shift so it sounds local in the evening rather than syndicating Tom Kent.

I also found interesting; that KVIL has been broadcasting the promos for the KLUV HD Stations. I guess that's not to upset those listeners on KLUV who may not be adjusting well to Aerosmith, etc. What's next for KLUV:
"Jump" by Van Halen; "Here I go Again" by Whitesnake; etc.

Sorry for the trains of thought here; but I think the last two weeks have been fascinating for fans of older pop music like myself.

KVIL has been running short promos for each of the HD stations in the cluster for quite some time.

KLUV hasn't used or promoted the word "Oldies" on the air in over five years. We've been reporting to Arbitron as "Classic Hits" for about two years. Just a continuation of a slow and steady transition with the times.

I love the mix of music they are playing. My only concern is the frequency that some of the same songs are heard. Even songs that you say- oh wow, I havent heard that in awhile- after severeal times in a few days burn out quickly. I would think that KLUV would emulate theirCBS counterpart in New York City and use a bigger playlist.

Seeing that Peter Z is commenting on this thread (Hi Peter :) ) I'd like to hope he can continue to push the envelope for more live and local on KLUV. I truly see with what we saw on Platinum with nothing but imaging on the weekend that live and local is far better than a jukebox (we already got Sandi and John on the weekends I understand) and that more live is better. I understand the money issue; just saying as a devoted fan; the more you can be live and local -- the better off you are

Maybe Perter Could get Air Brtannia on the .1 or even the .2?

Although its syndicated, I'll bet Drake would come in and do it live for the locals!

That's why I stopped listening...they sound just like the 12 other "classic hits" stations...I sometimes dropped into HD-2 for oldies.
