KLUV LAUNCHES COUNTER-(PLAT)TACK

Heard several times during the midday show yesterday..."Here's a song you won't hear on OTHER area radio stations..."

"Spiders and Snakes" by Jim Stafford was one. True, I don't think KEOM even plays that one anymore. Maybe someone there actually, finally realized that you **CAN** open up the playlist beyond 300 songs! See what that stupid, outdated concept of COMPETITION does? ::)

Are you talking about KLUV or KEOM? Look at www.yes.com for that song and they didn't have it on the log. When did KLUV play it?

I wonder if that song isn't even in the yes.com database. That site isn't always reliable. I've witnessed too many instances of wrong song / no song at all identification.

Now isn't this curious...I was definitely listening to KLUV, as I was in a large retail store that was playing it, and it'd be a strange thing for someone to arbitrarily change stations on a mass overhead speaker system. I heard "House of the Rising Sun" and "Celebration," which are on KLUV's yes.com list, but no "Spiders and Snakes" listed on there. It was around 1PM when I heard it. Summers, are you playing a belated April Fool's joke on me? ;D I don't think I'm crazy, although most physicians would disagree.

The two stations combined don't play much music. Platinum plays nothing high energy with loud guitars. They are a snooze fest
especially with Debi Diaz who's personality is the equivalent of watching laundry dry. KLUV, which has always had a void of personality is musically unlistenable with all that 80s crap. Every year I think radio can't get any worse and then it does get worse. Radio is dieing a slow, ugly death. I can always listen to KRLD's Charley Jones idiotic right wing conservative tirades.
KEOM's liner card reading kiddies are a better alternative.

Hey I like that 80s crap, and KEOM sucks now. They're trying to sound like KLUV, and I don't care for 60s music. They are going backwards, music programming wise. 1975 to 1985 would be a better choice. Once parents hit 40+, most of them no longer have kids living at home.

With the tendency to marry later by non-Hispanic whites, many families where the parents are 50 have kids under 18.

I love it when a station plays, and is proud of, a song that I don't play and would never want to because my listeners don't like it. Every time the competitor plays it, I can hear the fingers hitting the dial or button and leaving.

I can't think of many competitive battles that have been won by playing more songs than the competitor.

You hit the nail on the head here. :)
