Anybody noticed the music on here? They added a lot of 80's music. Artists I thought they would never play:

The Romantics
Madonna
Prince
Men At Work
Tears For Fears

And more....

All I can say is WOW!!!!

I bet Zippo really loves it! He was a jock back in that decade.

Ha! I hate to say this, but almost everyone currently on the air here, was on the air in the 80's! (lol)....sheesh!

LOL good point John! ;D

This reminds me very much of a line from Top-Gun:

Sorry to hear about Cougar. He was a good man. - Still is a good man. - Yeah, that's what I meant

I think Zippo was also a jock in an earlier decade. {The 1970's} !! ;D

So was I, on a "play radio station" in my bedroom. ;D Wish I had thought to record a lot of that stuff. :(

(Geez I'm showing my age here!)

Anyway back on topic, I've been sampling KLUV a lot lately. I haven't really listened to any terra radio since being bounced from that... (well, I'm sure you get the idea). I've enjoyed what I've heard so far. I just wish they'd back off the compression just a little. I heard them playing Livin' On A Prayer a few days ago and all that compression kind of gave it a harsh feel to me.

Robert-

Did you have Beach Baby by First Class, Mandy by Barry M., or Seasons in the Sun in the 45 collection in your home studio?

They were quintessential songs in my opinion.

OH, what were your call letters? Mine were WRFR - "Rock Force Radio", THE Rock Force.

Talking KLUV, I think the new (old) Jam jingles are a great match to the increased 80's emphasis. It is very difficult to jingle into Higher Love though.

I don't know the answer to this, did DFW ever have an "80's station" aka Houston's Point?

No I didn't have any of those. I mostly used whatever music my parents had on LP's (think MOR stuff like Johnny Mathis, etc). Then when the 80s rollled around, I really started building my own collection, as any teenager would.

Good for them. Bring it on... But for goodness sakes,
increase the 80's library! We don't need another 200
song rotation audience tested research crapola...
Bring back (and out) the stuff we haven't heard in years...
If I hear Slade's "Run Runaway" or Big Country "In
A Big Country" or Triumph's "Magic Power", I'll definitely
be listening... that's the stuff I'm talking about that no
one plays...

How nice it would be to have a true live and local personality
driven station ALL DAYPARTS INCLUDING WEEKENDS
jammin tunes from late 70's thru early to mid nineties THE RIGHT
WAY
. No more voice tracking and cheapie way out. There's no
reason why the afternoon show couldn't be fun either. Look at some
old You Tubes of Jo Jo Kincaid during the day.. no more explaining
needed. Ahhh, the days of when radio WAS FUN!

I doubt we will ever see a revival, because we live in the world of
corporate suits and as cheaply ran organizations as possible, but
hey, it's nice to dream!

Just like me... I started out with 8 Tracks from K-tel and Ronco! And at first I started my broadcast career on Channel 9, then moved up to Channel 23 and finally into the expanded CB Band, Channel 40! The big time! (just kidding about the CB radio stuff, but way too funny to resist.) The 8 tracks were real

Regarding BigB's prior post, BRAVO, BRAVO. That was a fantastic post.

Ooooh 8-tracks! The poor man's cart machine! ;D

I don't see them flipping. I think they'll continue to advance forward the years they cover. I see them going heavy 80s at some point.

I agree with Robert Bass, they are just moving the music forward to fit the format. 50's and 60's music will be a thing of the past with more focus on 70's and 80's and the demo for Oldies is changing. CBS has it all covered between jack FM and KLUV.

No flip. Someone please point out the guy whoever successfully predicted a flip. Much like ESPN analysts crediting a "source." Empty and misguided.

btw jrprog, this comment is not directed at just you but everyone in general...

Define "flip".

If you have a music format, isn't a "flip" when you change the music you are playing?
We have been witnessing KLUV "flip" for the past 12 to 18 months.
They don't play 50's and 60' music anymore.
KLUV has already "flipped"!
They just didn't make all the changes at the same time.

What say you, John Summers?
