KLUX Corpus Christi touts ''High Definition Radio''

KLUX is running a promo that says ''High Definition radio is here!'' It's not.

If you look at any of the FCC filings, the HD in HD Radio stands for ''Hybrid Digital.''
http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/digital/

Ibiquity, the company that developed the hydrid digital standard, says it has trademarked ''HD Radio'' as a brand for its transmission system and insists ''It doesn't stand for anything.'' But even Ibiquity admits the HD in HD Radio DOES NOT stand for high definition.

These stations are just adding to the listener confusion... and disappointment... when HD Radio doesn't deliver the same kind of improvement that HDTV delivers over standard TV.

I agree with the HD Radio being confusing.

"HD" is the 21st Century version of "New & Improved".

"Hey dear, we gotta get one of them HD thingamabobs because, well, it's HD"

Calling it HD is only slightly better than the old generic label of IBOC- but not much.

We have Lubbock's first HD Radio operation on the air here and we call it "digital radio" to try and avoid the whole "What does HD mean" issue.

Lots of issues marketing HD Radio as it is without Ibiquity "helping"...

Whether it's radio or TV, it's not an improvement if you can't get it! I've heard about lots of problems with both, and I've experienced some with digital TV...

Perfect! Call it ''digital stereo'' or ''digital radio'' or ''digital FM.'' All of these get the point across that it's new and improved without lying to the listeners about it being high definition.

I had a HDRadio tuner in my truck for only a weekend! After the reception crapped out about 35 miles out of Austin I decided to take it out and put back in my factory radio. What a waste of my time!
