KLZT HD-3

KLZT HD-3 is broadcasting static. Why can't they have it back to HD-2? They still have HD-2 blanked out and HD-3 -4 same static that was 106.5.

They still haven't fixed 106.5? How about 92.9 and others?

Didn't think to check 106.5 they are off, not sure about 92.9 KROM goes over them, 98.5 K253an must be off the air also, I am picking up KBBT instead.

The favorite 103.9 is still on the air broadcasting dead air.

That should change in short order. The license assignment has been granted, and the sale has consummated. A Consummation Notice should certainly be filed in the next few days. Not sure what will be used to feed the translator in Austin, but I would expect to hear Catholic programming on K280GN by month's end.

That’s a weird side effect of a reverse translator

95.1, 98.5, 101.1, and 106.5 share an antenna.

I heard it might be restored this coming week.
Are you speaking of the Shanefield tower farm? I thought 88.3, 89.1, 91.7, 97.3, 98.5, 100.3 and 101.1 primaries were on that farm? 95.1 sits farther north towards San Geronimo...

No, I was speaking about about the four FM translators on American's Buckman Mountain Road tower in Austin that have been off the air due to the ice storm.

I too was confused by what stations were being referred to. Since this is the board for both Austin and SA, and there are many stations on the same frequencies, we might remember to be more specific…🧐

There was significant damage in Austin's Westlake Hills tower farm. Antenna elements have separated, cables snapped, backup generators failed and even the collapse of an older 500ft tower which I understand was the primary for National Weather Service radios. More damage occurred as the ice began to thaw, dropping hundred pound blocks of ice through transmitter buildings. I believe that is what took the main NBC affiliate (KXAN) off the air, and why it is currently on a subchannel of KNVA 54. I wouldn't be surprised if many folks will be running on reduced power or from backup facilities for awhile.

For those of us that remained on the air, and with minimal impact - it came down to luck, and great engineering folks who kept monitoring equipment to keep the ice buildup from burning up transmitters.

They design systems in the north do deal with these sort of situations - not sure it's worth the expense to do the same here, but I'd bet there is some rethinking of this at the moment.

I assumed they were talking about Austin since this thread started talking about an Austin station.

Who are you referring to?
95.1, 98.5, 101.1, and 106.5.

You were saying that they all are on one antenna? Radio locator has 95.1 at 1095ft 98.5 at 997ft 101.1 at 997ft. Or is this info not correct? wouldn't be the first time they got it wrong.

FCCData.org, which typically is more accurate and up-to-date than R-L, shows all four as being 304 meters above ground level on the same tower.

92.9 filed a STA saying they'd be down because of "antenna failure" (we know it's storm damage) until early April when a tower crew can install the new antenna.
The 92.9 signal last I heard was Spanish Christian Radio Nueva Vida.

I believe it was still Radio Nueva Vida when the storm hit.

In other news, KHCB's 90.9 translator which was on the tower that collapsed because of the ice loading was back on the air a week ago this past Wednesday from a different tower obviously.

90.9 had filed a power upgrade to 92 watts from 75.
Why they didn't just say screw it and do 250 watts is beyond me.

BTW they're on the old tower unless they moved with no STA. Also the filing to upgrade seems fake since they filed the license to cover back the same day the mod was granted...

Because they can't. K215FD is not a fill-in translator (the primary station is in Houston). Non fill-in translators determine maximum power based on a calculation of terrain around the the antenna. They are a little lower than they were previously which is why the power was able to go up.

No, my understanding is the old tower fell in the ice storm. They are on a different tower adjacent to the old tower. Both towers share the same owner.

They had been off the air entirely for around three weeks and were clearly eager to be back on in Austin. They probably already had the equipment installed on the "new" tower and were just waiting for the FCC's approval to actually turn it on. Once that came through they did the equipment test and filed the cover.
