KMART IS YOUR SAVINGS PLACE...

So why would KLUV be running KMart spots today? I believe the closest KMart stores to DFW now are Longview and Lubbock. Now we once talked about this on here maybe 4 years back when KMart left the market, that perhaps there were pending buys that stations went ahead and ran...but NOW? Surely KMart's media buyer knows they are no longer located in DFW...and advertising here is a complete waste of money...and BIG money, I'm sure. It would take an idiot to say, "Hey, CBS, here's $50K, run our spots on every oldies station you have in all Top 10 markets," and not realizing that #5 won't hit a single potential customer.

???

I'll take a whack at this...

Young station sales rep sees wad 'o bills in adverts hands, plays it to his advantage in hopes of a huge pay raise for bringing in the extra cash, while taking the uninformed advert for a ride, in the process.

Could it possibly be network spots for a feature (History of Rock N Roll?) and someone in continuity screwed up the schedule or someone at the content provider blew it? When I worked at The Wolf I spent 1-2 hours every weekend dubbing in all sorts of national spots for station features - i.e. Coast to Coast AM, Mediabase 24/7, etc. They come on a CD or via download and only select spots are scheduled to run.

KMart does a decent online business. That might explain the local buy for the holiday shopping season.

That sounds about right..its for on-line sales, which they do a brisk business in.

I think Neil nailed it.
Every station has their trade deals for various things- features, prep services, etc..My money says this is a trade spot for some product or service CBS is getting- and those are very generic buys- I've heard Kotex spots on male stations, denture cream ads on active rock stations, etc etc...

And remember one thing- every spot traded out is less money that the company has to write a check for, and one less spotthey have to worry about selling....

That's why metro and Traffic.com sell their own stuff- the stations get a service they want (traffic reports) without having to pay salary and benefits to a reporter- while Metro/traffic have the pressure to selll those spots-

Meaning...what? Is this not a viable topic worthy of discussion, or does your comment have anything to do with your employer being mentioned?
