It's me.
I don't remember the year of the frequency change. I do, however, remember KMAS going on air around 1961-62 as a daytimer, operated out of a house. A long time later, after they spent the money to shift to 1030 and go fulltime, another applicant launched 1280 in Olympia as a fulltimer, with a tall tower. Turns out KMAS could have done that in the first place.
The orginal partnership of three that launched KMAS included Bob Sheetz, who was the engineer/announcer at KAPA in Raymond. This was Bob's opportunity for ownership. When Bob left KAPA, I was told that if I got my "first phone" (first class radiotelephone license) I would have a fulltime job at KAPA. I did. I think I was a junior in high school.
Bob's contribution to the original KMAS (for Christmas tree) included some equipment that KAPA didn't need anymore.
