KMCQ-Covington update....

These guys are investment bankers, not broadcasters check it out http://www.altacomm.com/

More of what radio does NOT need - number crunching bean counters. The '90s are over. Evolve or become an entree for the fittest.

Will they ever learn?.....

Looks like the new company (or the old one for that matter) is LOSING a lot of $$ this week as KMCQ in The Dalles is currently off the air! Apparently Monday's storm has something to do with this.....So much for those advertising $$.....

Another GOOD REASON to have a back-up plan, including a back-up transmitter, antennas, computers, etc.,

When will these non-broadcasting "owners" learn?

You know, I find it hard to believe that there is a lot of money to be lost in The Dalles. You can be sure it WON'T hurt the new owners at all.

I'd have to agree... All that money they spent, trying to rush things to get KMCQ over here to this side of the cascades... Some of that money could have been used on a backup transmitter and antennta in The Dalles. Somewhere in the back of my mind, First Broadcasting should have anticipated, that the Seattle market being considered a "border zone", should have taken into account that broadcasters north of the border have their own adjendas separate and careless of anything ever being considered south of the border, and would have caused much difficulty in getting the station to Cougar Mountain. Things would have still been the same, for alot less money, if they had thought of The Dalles first, in putting in a backup transmitter somewhere in the Mid-Columbia area, in case a storm or other natural disaster took the currently running KMCQ off the air, which this week's storms did. Now instead of First Broadcasting taking in the costs of that, they ended up "selling" that cost, to Alta.

Hye Guys and Gals...first of all Alta has been a long time investor in First Broadcasting and has funded numerous other radio groups. They are not new to the business.

What I haven't heard, and is reasonable conjecture, is whether they were moving to protect their investment. First Broadcasting has some very smart guys - and while Covington looks like a black hole, they have scored success elsewhere and are the best at shoehorning signals into markets that don't need them.

I just read in a FCC page that Alta has an controlling interest in Bustos Media, so looks like 104.5 when it moves here, they will have a Spanish format. It looks like they will be a cluster with 99.3 and 1210am.

Sounds like KMCQ in The Dalles has resumed broadcasting again. Sometime Friday afternoon the station finally came back to life again....that's over 4 days of weekday spots that will need to be refunded!

A total loss if you ask me, both for revenue and for the community. This week must also have given someone in management a ulcer down in The Dalles!

They probably get $8.00 a :30 in that market, if that. Four days of make-goods for most advertisers. No big deal in lost revenue.

Just found out that the Nanaimo, BC application was pulled (withdrawn) by the CBC. This was to be a repeater for their Victoria broadcast on 104.1, the same frequency KAFE needs to move to to effectuate the KMCQ change. I think the CBC figured they could operate on 104.3 when or if KAFE moves. Also, I'm sure they know that a repeater app in the face of 15 other MX's for the full-powered Class C allocation for Vancouver at 104.1 wouldn't be granted, so better to be on the sidelines of this catfight and keep your cool. Remember, KAFE must move before KMCQ can get to Cougar Mountain.

So I'd say another year or so will pass, and maybe a few cross-border skirmishes, and then we'll see what shakes out.
