KMCQ - First Broadcasting - OOPS

I figured the day would come when KMCQ went away. Still enjoying it for as long as we have it. KJR FM would shine if they adopted the play list of KMCQ. With KJR FM heading back into the 80s more and more and going right back to playing far too much Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Billy Joel, Journey and Steve Miller, they are going to become the same lousy station they were a year ago.
 
Yeah, well, I'm not surprised KJR is doing what they're doing. These are the songs that 'test' well. If a real radio station played the stuff that KMCQ plays, they'd be off the air in no time, because that is not the music the general public wants to hear. Or so I've been told. Personally, I love it.
 
Yessir, KJR-FM plays what tests well. I find KMCQ interesting to listen it's the amusment factor in never knowing what you'll hear next that causes me to listen. I've heard everything from Nat King Cole to Foreigner. KJR-FM would sink like a stone if they adopted a playlist anywhere near as wide as KMCQs.

What's frustrating to me about KJR is every time they "start over" it's interesting then it always gravitates back to essentially the same format they had before. It would be a shame in this case if they had lose Jay Kelly over conceptual differences and wind up with the exact station concept Jay had built -- I give that about a 60% chance of "likely outcome".

But each time KJR started out by trying something different ... the interesting elements get blown away with some kind of corporate firehose and it's back to core library ... tightly formatted verbage -- which appeases the masses but not much fun when the library is already 25+ years old!!

I agree!!!! I don't like what KJR is doing. They go number 1 in PPM by playing more oldies. Then right after that, they go back to the same crap they played before. Sounds like to me they are trying to play what matches Bob Rivers. The ratings will drop down again. Sounds like who is running KJR isn't very smart. Sounds like a lot of bad corporate decisions there to me!!!!

Uh, yes indeed that's the idea. Appealing to "the masses" bring in the revenue. And radio is after all...(say it together now)...a business

Haven't I and others mentioned that before? Yes I believe we did!
 
I like the station ... would LOVE it if KJR's "people presence" and KMCQ's "depth" could be married, and the phone line to the national programmer's cut so personalities could have more latitude. But I recognize that's not what wins.

I think there will be an adjustment in next month when variables settle out a bit and we'll be back to a three horse race in the music side with WARM, STAR, KJR in adult world and the rockers in the male-dominated world. I consider that a separate horse race from the info-based players.

Didn't mean to imply I don't respect what KJR-F is doing/accomplished -- just that every time they start to really grab my "passion" commitment they back away and take the safer route. Can't blame anyone for that approach, but the approach is why so many of us are less passionate about listening. Many who have grown up with that standard simply don't know differently (or the younger set has often gravitated away completely).
 
Well, what really upsets me is the fact that the (So-called) GM of the station isn't very cooperative. The station was picked up at auction and she refuses to disclose the ownership information and points of contact. Isn't that supposed to be public knowledge?

What needs to be done is to inquire through the WSAB and the FCC about these shenanigans - get that person who supposedly runs the I-pod and give her the boot. Then real radio people can turn that stick around, make it something palatable, and useful for the communities in the region. I am just sayin'... :mad:

Nothing I can't stand more than to have someone who babysits an I-Pod - radio, instead of using it for what it's purpose is. I hate puppets...because that is exactly what that situation is.

Besides, they never answer the phone, always an answering machine.

By FCC Regulation, isn't there supposed to be a live body in the building for access to the Public File and operating in the public interest, during regular business hours, minimum of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week?

Hmmm...sounds like FCC violations to me.

Time to have some fun with this...
 
It is my understanding is that there is a management agreement in place pending a transfer due to indebtedness. This was triggered by actions of the lenders. Yes, there needs to be a location within the coverage area where someone can have access to the public file. This location may very well be a real estate office, a barber shop, or a public library. You can also find everything on the fcc website if you wish.

Have you actually made an attempt to visit the office, or have you merely attempted a phone call?
 
I was told KMCQ is still being managed by Heather Frye at WAOL/WOXY, the other First Broadcasting property in Cincinnati pending resolution of the license. KMCQ has an interesting mix. Can't say I've ever heard a commerical on it and hardly any imaging.
