KMCQ is going oldies

Leaving in the middle of a radio shift to go to the store was a mistake. Mike, as a program director would not have allowed it.

Driving without insurance, then buying insurance after a car accident and getting caught would be a mistake. I don't think it necessary to go on with others since I live in a glass house too.

I liked Mike, we've all made mistakes, some larger than others. No need to call Larry out on this one.
 
Say, dunno, who do you get to do your windows in your glass house? I have a lot of them and the birds keep using mine for target practice.
 
AHQ: I agree. A month later there up and their Playlist is much deeper and wider than KBSG. I've listened about 8 hours now and no repeats that I'm aware of. I live in Covington and I'm proud of our KMCQ. This station kicks ass. I really hope it works out.

I listened for the 1st time today, and I liked. Warren Zevon thru Fleetwood Mac. Not the pablum which was KBSG. I hope it succeeds. It's found itself on my preset dial.

Warren Zevon through Fleetwood Mac isn't a very ringing endorsement of a playlist. You can get those over played classic rock artists on KJR FM or KZOK. KMCQ's playlist is much broader than that and yes, they include much of the library of hits that KBSG used to play. Hell, at least I havent heard Eye Of The Tiger yet. That is promising. I still think it is a bit too early to tell.

No. No Web site, no commercials. Try the new 104.9 from Canada - it just flipped to older rock music.

Of course it isn't. It never has before. In fact I would have never even heard Q104.5 as a hot AC if I hadn't called the studio line and listened on hold. I can't believe that station after moving to another market and all, making it a hassle for other stations to change different frequencies and squit, flips to dumb oldies. KBSG shouldn't be a news station - news should only be on AM where the coverage is greatest and leave the FM to music. I for one never listen to FM talk. if I want talk radio I go to AM. So in turn, this eliminates a great hot AC in which KPLZ will again have no competition. And that station still isn't streaming online either - dumb moves if you ask me. The reply title of this thread is so appropriate.

Thanks. Not a big oldies fan, mostly curious. Yes, I've listened a little bit to 104.9 in Vancouver.
 
Whatever KMCQ ends up doing I would appreciate it if they'd just drop in some quality sweepers. Sure would brighten up the dang thing. The one they run sounds like it was voiced by the overnight jock in The Dalles. I know, they're running it on the cheap, but jeeez guys get Charlie Van Dyke or Drew Dimmel or someone who sounds appropriate.
 
Well, you're certainly not going to spend money on branding if you have no intention of maintaining the brand. The right to operate the station at 104.5 in Covington is currently held by some bankers looking to make some moolah. They are not interested in programming, proper positioning, marketing, processing, or anything that costs money. This is a legal placeholder. Nothing more. In a few weeks or months, it will not be KMCQ, there will be other calls. It may not be broadcasting from Enumblah, that one is most certainly up in the air. It will likely be doing something differently musically- or given the sudden interest in talk on FM, maybe it will go that way instead. If it gets stuck in SE King County for the long run, maybe it will go all-NASCAR.

I agree that their music mix has been pretty decent. Too bad it won't be there much longer.

First Broadcasting General Counsel Elizabeth Hammond leaves, along with an analyst.

She’ll be returning to D.C., from the Dallas-based facility development company and station owner that no longer needs a fulltime in-house general counsel. T-R-I hears that First also laid off one of its analysts and a member of the office staff. But there’s no wholesale exiting here – the company just recently merged (in July) with Cavalry Media Services into a new entity named BMT, for Broadcast Management & Technology. Alta Communications had backed First and it remains in the corner of BMT, and its Brian McNeill and Bob Emmert are on the board of the new company, which offers consulting on finance, management, operations and engineering (with Bob Denny). It’s also offering services in the areas of receivership, Chapter 7/11 trusteeship and blind trusts – which should be growth businesses in 2009.

Tuned in for the first time today. Sounds like a banker from the Dalles is doing the liners.

Liner said the greatest hits of the 60's and 70's, and they play All She Wants to Do is Dance, 1985???

What are you all smokin up there in them Covington Hills.

Yes, bankers doing liners for their own radio stations, this is what radio has come to. Do you feel inspired? Clear Channel, Citadel & Cumulus take note.
 
I keep hearing the same low budget legal ID/liner, over and over again. How difficult would it be to invest in an imaging package? How about a memorable name for the station, like "Magic 104.5" or "Q104.5?"
