2 Things regarding the reunion. It was absolutely Gonzer's show from start to finish. The Shadoe & Bellamy regimes hate each other (bad blood thru the years.) Attempts were made to bring in both camps and I wasn't privvy to those discussions, but suffice to say we see which camp "won." No offense to Jeff, but the fact he worked with Sam had MUCH to do with it. I was also a bit dismayed that after contacting a few people who worked under Sam, they were surprised to hear about te reunion and obviously hadn't been invited. I'm not naming names but there were THREE people who live in town who would have loved to have been a part.
The other thing-- and this is dicier and makes my blood boil. 'Quat did the "Legends Of Rock Radio" the weekend before at K-LOST with their management knowing full well he was slated for the Sound event. It is MY UNDERSTANDING that he was offered a position of future employment with Citadel, and to show good faith, "maybe you should just blow off that little stunt at 100.3 next weekend..." He never showed up and a lot of people were disappointed. I left a message on Buchmann's machine at 3 am basically calling him, his GM (Bob Moore) and his corporate honchos a bunch of deadbeats to deprive So. Calif. with a proper reunion. Not only were Ladd, Fox and the others banned from appearing on the air, they were told in no uncertain terms to not attend the PRIVATE dinner off-the-air scheduled for Thursday evening. It's kind of unnerving how much control a corporation has over what you do in your spare time. I guess that's the downside of contracts.
And then Ladd got on his soapbox after 8 minutes of spots around 9pm that Monday and proceeded to drone on for another 8 minutes about how it was his decision all along to not show and nobody made him do anything... I'll leave it to your imagination whow folks are feeling aboutall of this...

Good info Leopold. This does resolve a few of the unanswered questions.

Ladd has always been the corporate guy he says he is not. That is because he knows that if this gig lets him go, there is no other that will let him do what he wants with the amount of freedom he currently enjoys. If he was the rebel he says he is, he would have shown up at both the private party and the on-air gig and then fought the suits (in a very public manner) later. His cred would go sky high. Like the rest of us though, his job and ability to put food on the table outweighs the benefits of being the true rebel. There is nothing wrong with being the corporate guy, everyone else likes their job and needs to be one too. But don't be Mr. Rebel on the air and Mr. Corporate Man when it comes time to cash the checks.

Very disappointing about Paraquat if this is true. He didn't show for an event in which he was heavily promoted because he thought he was going to get a carrot from Citadel? 5 cent Citadel? Has he been paying attention to what is going on? Bad play Pat. You cheated the fans and for what, a suckers mirage? Really bad play.

Of course the worst play was by KLOS, who had to (try to) copy the Sound's event before it came off (I posted on this early on in this thread). This didn't increase KLOS' cred, it validated the presence, if not the actual threat, of an upstart competitor. Just plain stupid on KLOS' part. How many folks do they think heard the KLOS event and didn't talk about the upcoming Sound event? Listeners may not know all the inner goings-on, but they are not stupid either. If anything, the KLOS event just added to the build up to the Sound event.

Maybe once or twice a year, I'll tune in Ladd's show just to see what is up. Invariably, he is on a rant chastising the listeners for not supporting his "free form" show. He will play Petty's "The Last DJ" as an ode to himself. (By the way, Charles Laquidera from WBCN seems to think HE is the Last DJ!.....)

But Ladd's show is not really so adventurous. The guy really doing free form as of late was Jonsey. THAT was free form.

I can take Ladd in small doses which usually means one stopset because he can go about 10 minutes before even hitting the spots. But the whole "last deejay" thing annoys me. He's been on that rant since he was on KLSX. He seems to think that he's the only jock to have worked FM Rock Radio. In truth, you can bang out a list of jocks from every market that had a heritage Progressive Rock/AOR station. There have been some greats over the years and Ladd is just a small part of the tapestry. He's been lucky though as LA is a publicity hub and many of the artists that he's befriended over the years make their home here. It's all worked out pretty well for him. My KMET favorite was B. Mitchell Reed. He was a great fast talking Top 40 jock in the 50's & 60's who got even better as an AOR jock in the 70's and could blow the doors off 99% of the rest of the deejays.

In able for KMET to ressurect itself it has to start out as an Online Radio station and compete against other Classic Rock Stations in LA. The problem with the 94.7 FM frequency is that WAVE is competing with KSBR for the Number One Spot for Smooth Jazz/ Quiet Storm Format in SoCal.

Don't forget about Rodney Bingenheimer who is still on KROQ once a week.

While Jim Ladd has been stuck in 1971 for 38 years, Rodney has been breaking new acts for the last 30+ years and is the most important rock/AOR dj in L.A. music history.

I'm amazed they let Rodney on at all! When he was on earlier I used to listen, and I loved his style. Like a friend just playing music for you that he digs, hoping you'll like it too.

Yeah? Well Ladd will play you an hour of Doors music. He hopes you like it too. If you do, you can join the tribe and pass the peace pipe around.

80 percent of Ladd's tunes are either by Roger Waters, Pink Floyd, the Doors, or the Eagles.

"100 point 3 K-M-E-T" does have quite a nice ring to it.

It was 20 years ago, though. People move.

But, then again - even if you weren't in LA when KMET was on the air, it is a good name for a radio station.

Agree If only my favorite station The Wave ever decides to move to 100.3 I am a Wave fan and a KMET Fan but Bonnevile and CBS has to negotiate to switch frequencies soon.

Lots of lunacy in this post but you are obviously a new poster to this forum so I will withold the correcting comments back this time. Suffice it to say this will not be happening. Time to move on to more attainable endeavers.

KMET under Sam Bellamy became blue collar radio. It was the radio station that was heard at every auto repair shop in southern California. It was not a place where you turned to for political awareness although they would tell you differently. It was also alcohol driven. The music was no longer "pot' music but music where you turned when you wanted to get drunk. I'm sure, during the Sam Bellamy era, a lot of the original listeners of the station moved away from KMET. It was not my favorite station and I found myself listening to KMET less and less during that time as there was only so much George Thorogood and Bob Seger I could listen to.

Agree KMET is dead in FM frequency and won't return.
