What ever happened to the plans (w CP granted) to change freq. (101.5, was it?) and upgrade to a higher class and power? Was it just too expensive?

Just talked to the engineer who did the CP for the upgrade. The former owner let the cp lapse due to lack of cash. A Redding station upgraded since preventing that CP from being refiled. However, he is now in touch with Brad concerning an improvement.

Very cool! I met Brad at KGBS way back when. Good radio man - I hope he's successful with the station.

Yes he did ! He was also pd of XPRS 1090 in the 1970's. Last LA gig was on 1500 KBBQ and then he went to San Jose on the 1500 there. Went on to morning drive in Houston, St. Louis and Miami.

hmm just noticed on the FCC site that the KMFB calls are out and KUNK are in for 92.7 in Mendo. Ver-d-interesting. lol

KUNK - FM has applied to move to a transmitter site NORTH - near Fort Bragg on Bald Hill ( + 730 feet) as a class A on 101.9 -- NOT 101.1 or 92.5/92.7. Just what the area needs is another radio station for Fort Bragg. --- NOT !!!!!!! Looks like the next step is to UPGRADE to a B-1 - on 101.9. Bad move - unless the new 101.9 B-1 puts a real good signal over Willits or Ukiah -- which it will NOT. Should have gone the other way and moved to 92.5 B-1 from Mathison Peak - mid way between the coast and highway 101. A B-1 from Mathison Peak ( + 1030 feet) would put a 70 dbu over Willits and a 60 over Ukiah -- were the POPULATION and Businesses are located. Fort Bragg is OVER RADIO-ED with a pop count of just 7500 persons. 3 stations already in Fort Bragg. SLIM PICKINGS at best. Good luck Brad.

Not to even consider that there are 4 open FM channels that could serve the Fort Bragg - Mendocino area AND another 4 that could be dropped in to serve Willits and Ukiah. Now all the area needs -- is PEOPLE. LOL.
