KMFK for sale

doesn't the new owners have some stock in univison, that prevents it from buying kfmk. and if they do i think univision wouldn't want bmp to buy kfmk.

i still reading about companies having interests in other other radio companies and other owners putting up stations for sale. on the houston radio board, someone wrote that the new owners bain capital and thomas has interests in univision and cumulis. on inside radio that sbs radio maybe saleing stations to please its investors. r and r records and inside radio site about cbs putting up stations for sale. other companies that are not able to buy stations.

The wierd part of the business of radio is that BMP, Univision and Clear Channel and all Private Equity deals. Public money says that radio has topped out. SBS, Citadel and many many more are sufferring fo the wrath of lack of faith in the business of radio.

Unless, another Private Equity partner comes to the table, it seems unlikely that the current market will support existing players with future radio purchases. And BMP, Univision, Clear Channel and CBS and many many others have announced that they are going to dispose of non-core radio properties. It's going to be awhile until it all settles out. Day after day you read about sales being down 10% for the 2nd quarter. I wonder how bad the 3rd quarter will be.....

Maybe we will see the return of the Mom and Pop radio stations or at least some smaller groups. For instance, if you listen to 1530 ESPN at all you know that Orangebloods.com practically runs the place anyways. There is a rumor afoot that they might put together a group to buy it outright from Simmons which is practically bleeding money from the place now. Wouldn't that be cool? Small local ownership groups again?

i agree with mister radio about small groups, i be glad to hear slightly different playlists from one station to the other doing the same formats. like b 93 and khfi k 98 , 107.7 the hawk and z 102.3 kool 98.9 and oldies 103.5. and not have only one station doing the format.

The tough part about that will be for those of us who work in radio. Its kind of a double edged sword. There are less jobs now with all the large groups owning more stations (ie: one engineer for 6 stations as opposed to one engineer for each of six independent stations) but the jobs that are their can pay more because of the large responsibility....although I have not really benefitted from that yet....

The change started when Robin Flores left as the PD and morning show host. Jennifer Washington who was his co-host and who had been there for awhile also decided to leave (she got out of radio altogether). The new PD Tommy Austin (who was PD of KISS at the time) was forced to take on the Kidd Kraddock morning show by corporate. After Tommy left for St. Louis, Jay Shannon was brought back in as PD of both stations and began tweaking the music to more match the morning show (which had worse rating than the every other day part). The next step in that transformation was to lose the staff entirely and go "Jukebox". Now with the sale happening, Jammin has become an audio billboard for KISS-FM.

I woud like to see Austin get an oldies station like KONO in San Antonio or a Classic Rock station like KZEP in San Antonio.
