KMGO CP Granted

Edwin, has the management there explained why they are seeking the permit? When this came up on the board before (at the time of the application), the general feeling was that this was a way to increase the value of the license, since if granted KMGO could be offered for sale as a Des Moines rimshooter.

I'm originally from the area, and still come to the same conclusion. As long as KMGO targets Centerville and Ottumwa, it doesn't seem that an improved signal in places currently on the fringes of KMGO's signal like Osceola, Indianola, and Fairfield would offset the cost of a brand new 1400+ foot tower.

Also, what is the current arrangement with KMGO and the Palens? Is there now some co-ownership, LMA, or JSA? It seems that they do a number of promotions together such as the Radio Auction.
 
First, we're no longer seeking the permit, it's been granted. Second, as i mentioned when this topic came up before, we're funding the new tower and plan to compete in Des Moines and even Ames (the longley-rice models are kind to us). KMGO is definitely NOT FOR SALE. Ask the brokers who called through the years :) The Longley-Rice models also DO show an increase in Indianola, another future target for us. And there's never been co-ownership with the Palens. We're just good friends who on occassion team up to help out our local communities with tremendous promotional power.
 
Well, we haven't fired our entire air staff...lol. And I know we'll continue our live and local push that already works for us very well. Plus there's some very cool surprises coming :)

Soil and ground prep happens in December and hopefully we can start building in the spring to early summer. After they start, ERI says it'll take about 3 months to finish.

Well congrats on getting the license... I hope the new exciting changes that are coming soon will also include a new staff. One thing KMGO is good for is putting people to sleep. Mike O'Connor...Snore....

I hope if you plan to compete in Des Moines you plan on picking up your pace, get a rejuvenated staff with some spunk and get on the ball to compete. Things are much faster paced in Des Moines and KMGO will fall far behind running at a turtles pace.

What a way for KMGO to enter Des Moines with a bang!! Ah, the thought of David stomping Goliath into the gutters of Des Moines brings a smile to my face!! ;D
 
Still have zoning to pass - site prep's done, soil's sampled and everything else is pretty much ready to go once we get the approval from the Monroe County zoning board.

Sounds good, Edwin. Glad to hear this upgrade is becoming a reality. Des Moines radio can use a good shakeup. Something besides the "Big Three" groups would be a welcome change. Keep us posted!

Speaking of new voices in Des Moines, does anyone know when the Connoisseur Media stations are supposed to flip the switch?
 
Yep - thought we'd put pictures and video of the construction up once they get started. Maybe even a webcam :)
