KMGO CP Granted

Too bad the stick can't be moved a bit further NW to allow a city-grade over all of Des Moines.

The required signal would still be provided over Centerville, but I'm guessing proximity to KWQW/98.3 is preventing this (?)

Mason City is what kept us from a full C and 2000' height if I remember right - and before they were there 20 years ago, we came in strong up in their neck of the woods :)

Is this project for KMGO still happening?

There has been an active discussion about this on a regional radio board. Not sure if I can give the name or link here, but the first word in the board's name is the color of cherries and apples :)

The consensus seems to be that it's on hold, due to the current recession/depression. As are most construction projects these days.

The CP expires November 20, 2009. So if nothing has happened by now, it's probably not going to unless they're able to get an extension on the CP.

i wish we'd hear something. their station will peg on a scan with my car radio in my driveway with their authorized height/output. Should be pretty darn good if this deal goes thorough.

CP has been renewed for another three years, in case you haven't already heard. Although IMO, a nice 750 footer btwn Centerville and Ottumwa would generate as much revenue and would be a nice improvement over what they have now.

Having moved to Iowa from LA I agree that a stick favoring Ottumwa would be better especially from a selfish view. When I was in North Hollywood and before the birth of Go Country 105 (KKGO) I used to regularly stream KMGO on line. Now that I live here I am still streaming because of reception issues in my apartment. Also I would wish for better programming as it once was in the past. The station appears to be mostly tracked with the only live segments being the mornings, but the music play list somewhat makes up for that. Of course the loss of the late great Billy Cole devastated me but to some extent Chubby Howard on Classic Country Radio out of Xenia, Ohio has filled that void for me.

Another note, the owners have recently acquired KELR, now KEDB, and maybe some of their attention has been siphoned off to that endeavor. Although Edwin Brand appears, on the web site as a personality on KKGO I never hear him anymore and he was one of my personal favs as an on air personality, better than Shawn Parr or Paul Freeman (but maybe not the departed Todd Baker) on KKGO.

And a final thought, the Web Site needs some work, it has not been updated in ages.

Anyone heard any word on why this project is taking so long? Seems like KMGO can't afford it, which isn't surprising. What is surprising is that they refiled the CP. They shouldn't have bragged about this project quite as much in the beginning until they were sure it could actually be done; they kind of look stupid to everyone now that they can't get it done. They should have waited until they secured the financing (IMO they should have probably seen about getting financing before even getting the CP, that way they could have saved the filing costs if they didn't get the money). It seems a lot of bad decisions went into this process, and to me it's probably good they didn't get it because if they made these decisions in a bigger market they wouldn't last long. It doesn't sound like there are very many people working there either, so I don't know how they think they will compete in a bigger market with a small staff. Doesn't sound like they have the brains to move up.

Just to emphasize my earlier point, here's some remarks that edwin brand has been posting about the project all along:

"Well, we haven't fired our entire air staff...lol. And I know we'll continue our live and local push that already works for us very well. Plus there's some very cool surprises coming"

"Soil and ground prep happens in December and hopefully we can start building in the spring to early summer. After they start, ERI says it'll take about 3 months to finish."

"Still have zoning to pass - site prep's done, soil's sampled and everything else is pretty much ready to go once we get the approval from the Monroe County zoning board."

"Yep - thought we'd put pictures and video of the construction up once they get started. Maybe even a webcam"

Then magically edwin dropped off and quit posting obnoxious comments about the project. Like I said, rather than put all this garbage about pictures, video, webcam, and everything being ready to go they should have kept quiet other than announcing the project once. Then when they broke ground they could have started talking more. To put all this down when they hadn't even secured financing is foolish. To even do any of the work without getting a financeer is dumb since they wasted the money to run the studies now.

I guess he was right, there were some cool surprises coming - this project never happening
