There aren't many more well known or heavy duty in this market than you, Chuck. "The Morning Filler w/Chuck Tiller" on AM 1590 Gold, sure sounds like something I'd stick around the high end of the AM dial for. Thanks for the response, Chuck. I remember you guys gave 1090 a look over a couple years back, which is why I immediately thought of a potential Salem bid when the sale of 1590 was announced. I'd be quite pleased knowing you were in charge of that legacy dial position, Chuck. I'm certainly pulling for you guys.

Guess I just don't know what KMIC's night signal really misses down south. Day or night, 1590 is clean up this way. It's not until you are north of 1960 where it begins to fall off. Where does KMIC's night pattern have the most deficiencies in Houston proper?

KMIC is directional at night and does not get into deep southwest Houston or Ft Bend County at all. I appreciate the props, however, I feel quote certain that it would go Spanish, IF they bought it. Salem has quite a few "Radio Luz" formats around the country. I'm only telling you what I would do with it, if it were left up to me. Unfortunately, it isn't left up to me. I have a 1000 oldie library already in the system. I could start with that in less than 24 hours. Alas, I can dream.

BMW's statement that they removed AM reception from its i3 and i8 models because of interference from the motor is puzzling to me.

I often drive a 2007 Toyota Prius (hybrid). I suffer some noise on the FM band. Parked, FM sensitivity is excellent. Whilst driving, if an FM signal is less than about 60dBμ, a hiss can be heard, especially if there is multipath on the signal, while most of the HF spectrum, as well as the 6m and 2m VHF bands, is absolutely hammered by RFI. The problem is worst when the vehicle is slowing down (e.g. approaching a stop), and oddly affects some HF bands far worse than others, with no discernible pattern (e.g. 49m, 31m and 19m killed whilst a decent signal on 25m or the 75m amateur band has a chance).

However (amazed me, too), reception on the AM band is completely unaffected. DX reception is superb, even though the antenna is only a whip, about a foot long.

It does sound lousy on AM - no treble response at all. I suspect they have a brick-wall LPF in the circuit to take out IBOC noise.

I've tuned around while in the First Colony Mall parking lot after sunset and noted that the KMIC signal was almost buried in the co-channel pileup. Presumably they are protecting KDAE in Sinton (Corpus Christi.) The KMIC night signal is also very poor at the Fairfield Outlet Center on 290. Little night coverage to the north as well, but you can say that for a lot of Houston AM's.

Of course Salem should note that the KMIC night signal is vastly superior to the KTEK night signal.

We've already got several Spanish language religious stations on 880, 980, 1380, 1400, 88.1, plus at various times on 1050 and 1320. Any room for another?

He might, if he sold the soon to move & upgrade KYOK to Jesse Dunn. It doesn't seem likely, but given the right circumstances, it's plausible.

As for the plethora of Spanish Christian, while Frog is correct there are several providers, the only signal that currently covers a sizable portion of the entire Houston metro is 1320 KXYZ. However, even MRBI can't cover everyone in the area with it.

Valid point made, Frog. KMIC far exceeds KTEK, head to head. Especially at night, lol. If Salem were to make a bid and acquire KMIC, would there be a need for Salem to continue holding onto the daytimer? Given the fact they have already made the attempt to unload 1110 to Dan Frishberg previously, I would think the answer would be no.
