KMIH battle finally over

KMIH has received it's CP approval for change in channels from the FCC. KASB also moves to accomodate KMIH w/a channel change.

See NW Broadcasters recent posting:
http://members.shaw.ca/nwbroadcasters/recentnews.htm

KMIH will be better served by going back to the NCE portion of the band. KASB will also get a better signal out and not interfere with neighboring KNHC in Bellevue like they do now. All in all, a great day for educational radio and the communities that these two stations serve.

Whoa....that's great news to the kids at Mercer Island High running KMIH. Now they can concentrate on their media studies instead of flying legal briefs back and forth to the FCC and all the other powerful broadcast interests involved. It appears that KMIH will have a cleaner signal at 88.9 Mhz vs. 104.5. Right now they're sandwiched between KAFE, Bellingham, KCFL, Fall City, and some stupid Gig Harbor translator down south.

Rumor has it that Clear Channel is taking the 104.5 frequency when all is settled. Let's place bets on what this channel will become: 1) "Sports Radio" 2) Funky Monkey with a better signal, and divesture of 104.9 (or turn 104.9 into EZ listening) or 3) A new format. On #3, I'm sure they wanted to do Country, but Entercom beat them to the punch. They also could have done KUBE Lite, but Sandusky beat them with "Movin". So now they are in a box. My bet is they go with Sports Radio and the airing of games, and KJR 950 turns to talk.

Irregardless, it's nice to see KMIH remain on the air and continue their educational purpose.

Clear Channel has already got a south sound Country station out of their Tacoma Studios, 102.9 Qcountry. 85,000 Watts off a tower in Olympia.

Glad to hear the kids will continue on!

What 104.5 frequnecy are you tlaking about CC Taking?

104.5 in The Dalles, Oregon (KMCQ) is doing an allocation shuffle into this Seattle-Tacoma market. Certainly KMCQ will not operate as that entity in Seattle. Heard that CC wanted it.

OK...the part I don't really understand is the reference to SERVING some 800K+ people. When will they actually be MEASURED on how well they "serviced" those people? Of course, rules are probably so lax these days that jamming some satellite service and running spots for Fred Meyer (which happens to have a "location in Covington") will probably MORE than meet the standard and on we go.
