KMIH-KASB changes filed at FCC

Here's the scoop on the changes planned for KMIH.

KMIH has applied to the FCC to move to 88.9 with the same 30 watts at 69 meters above average terrain that they are now using. This means KMIH should cover about the same area they reach now.

This change requires the Bellevue Public School station KASB to move to 89.9, which they have agreed to do. The move will give KASB a power increase to 60 watts and a much larger coverage area.

This means that the current lawsuits keeping KMCQ from moving to 104.5 in Covington will end. Apparently the people behind the KMCQ move are paying all of the KMIH legal and engineering expenses.

This means the way is clear for KMCQ to take over 104.5.

In a related move, the Gig Harbor schools KGHP translator on 104.5 will be moved to 93.7.

Great idea, but one question....

Isn't KASB already on 89.3?

Sorry, KASB is actually moving from 89.3 to 89.9. Thanks for catching that.

Would you *please* let the other shoe drop?!

Hmmm...I see that there will be a lot of interference at the 89.9 frequency, with KASB, KGRG/Auburn and KGHP/Gig Harbor occupying the dial. One has to wonder who'll be the first to file a complaint with the FCC to block the move.

The only way the FCC can react to any complaints is if KGRG or KGHP experience any interference within their 60 dBu contour. And that is only if interference is shown on paper--not real life.

I think the only station that would be taken seriously would be KNHC, since there would be second adjacent implications. However, KASB is moving from first adjacent to second adjacent, so the move decreases interference, so the move is likely welcome.

Yes, RJD is absolutely correct. KNHC will gladly want KASB off their tail. In fact, if Bellevue had been following the rules from the very begining, they would never had gotten away with a first adjacency from KNHC. So this plan actually is much better for Nathan Hale. KGRG won't receive predicted overlap
in their 60 dbu, so this good. And the interference to KEXP and KPLU has been engineered to be pretty much non-existant. The engineering documents show zero interference at ground level. But the 2nd half of this chapter is coming down the pike....and inquiring minds want to know. Hint:

Well, gee! Does "hint" mean we can guess?

Here's my guess, based on your hint:

103.9/Forks becomes 105.5/Forks
104.3/Bellingham becomes 104.1/Bellingham
104.5/The Dalles becomes 104.5/Kent

Do you tell us if we're close?

That is the current KBDB (103.9, Forks, WA) transmitter site.

Very, except KMCQ will still be licensed to "Covington." There are two more elements to go here.............and it involves wiping out another station.........Unfortunately. However, I do have a great solution for those people..........

Oh, yuck!

Is it KCFL? Or is there another in the equation?

Well, think what the ultimate goal would be, and then you'll understand. Why make these stations jockey around? What could possibly add tremendous value here?

Hint: What's light brown, slightly furry, has whisker's and runs real fast?
