kmih

this station is awesome. i cant get their signal at my house but i listen over the internet and they play a very good variety of music. its a shame that their signal is so weak. i think that if kmih got a little more juice for their transmitter they could most likey get a very large audience of listeners and maybe even make some competition for other radio stations.

Their 94.5 translator gets out a pretty good distance. I've picked them up at times over KRXY-Olympia here in Federal Way.

The station apparently came up into the June ppms with 45,700 listeners, according to Arbitron, Inc. 6am-Mid Mon-Sun. They hardly do any promotion, from what I hear from the crew over there. And during the pre-currency presentation I attended from the Arbitron guy several months ago, the data I saw was that the station came into the market with an approximate cume of about 25,000 weekly listeners on the ppm, and showed up in June with the 45,700 number, an increase of 82% from pre-currency. That's a huge boost for a station no matter how you slice it, on a percentage basis.

It might also be worth noting that the online stream is 160 kbit/sec MP3 which sounds pretty darn good... At least on my Mackie Monitors at home. (I did the processing design so I probably should not be evaluating it but hey, it does sound pretty darn good, off air is not bad on my rega tuner either. ;-) ). the next project is HD but that is a ways off.

If anyone ever wants to volunteer or get a tour of KMIH just hit me up (john at vanoppen dot com), I am totally game.
