KMIY Heading To AC Shift With First Time Christmas Music Move?

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...c-shift-with-first-time-christmas-music-move/

iHeartMedia Hot AC “My 92.9” KMIY Tucson has made a first time move to Christmas Music.

Branding as “Tucson’s Christmas Music Station”, the move comes with a shift of on-air talent. APD/Morning host Cyndi LaFrese exited in last week’s cuts and has been replaced by KBIG Los Angeles’ “Valentine In The Morning”. The station has also dropped On-Air with Ryan Seacrest in afternoons and moved “On With Marion Lopez” from late nights to nights. AC voicetrackers Jana Sutter (middays) and Toby Knapp (afternoons) join the lineup.

Not only is 92.9 all "ho ho ho" but 94.9 is doing it again this year. That's two high powered FM stations in the same market thinking that people want to hear Christmas music even before Thanksgiving. I wonder if there are other markets about the size of Tucson where two high powered stations are both all Christmas. Could be that iHeart wants to cut down the numbers for Mix so that KRQ will look better. 92.9 has never had really good ratings since iHeart bought it.

Funny listening to My 92.9 this morning. They still are using all the Christmas music liners between songs but no longer playing any Christmas music.

No RDS display & no station logo as they had been displaying.

A last-minute snag in implementation of the new format? What could it be? iHeart isn't known to "double clutch" like this when it wants to make a change. Christmas music still running past New Year's Day is bizarre on anything but religious (generally Roman Catholic) stations.

Reminds me of this line: "You'll see a lot of strange things from now on," said Clarence to George Bailey in the Christmas movie It's A Wonderful Life.

Did they not get all the Jingle out of those Bells?

:ROFLMAO:

Well the continuous Christmas music has finally ended at “My 92.9.” KMIY-FM is now stunting with what appears to be continuous music about “America.” I heard “American Woman” by the Guess Who, followed by “American Honky Tonk Bar Association” by Garth Brooks, followed by “Small Town USA” by Justin Moore, followed by “American Girl” by Everclear followed by “America” by Simon and Garfunkel and then “Only in America” by Brooks & Dunn. It seems to be very country heavy so I thought at first it was stunting toward country, but that makes zero sense with KIIM 99.5 being the country leader in Tucson. Maybe a Jack-FM type format? Not too sure what is going on at My 92.9! Thoughts?

Maybe right-wing talk? Could the format work on FM with a local Trumpster or two doing a.m. and p.m. drives and syndicated talk the rest of the time?

By the way, "American Woman" is not a pro-USA song any more than "Born in the USA" is. But both have been appropriated by "patriots" who don't understand or don't bother to listen to the lyrics.

A "brand new radio station for Tucson" is coming Wednesday morning at 9:29. In the meantime they are playing "red, white and blue" songs of every music genre with commercials and traffic & weather reports.

Any other stations recently that stunted like this around?

Yes. In August 2019 101.7 KDRI 'The Drive' played nothing but novelty songs the first weekend they were on-air. They started their regular format the following Monday morning.
