KMJE 101.5 move from Gridley to Woodland approved!

It's on today's FCC Daily Digest.

So now we will have another Sacramento FM with a Woodland City of License.

I always thought that 101.5 was as clean channel in the area and the closest co-channel I am familiar with is 101.5 at Truckee, CA.

It appears that Results will have a viable FM/FM combo operation in Sacramento along with 92.1

Does anyone know about the new tower location for 101.5 Mhz.?

It this going to be a new tower or an existing one?

Will there be some 60-dbu coverage over Sacramento?

I will look for your replies.

The transmitter will be located near the KSFM tower east of Davis. It will put a 60 dbu contour over much of the western part of the metro.

KDRT-LP in Davis has been granted a Special Temporary Authority to move to 95.7. An application to move there permanently is pending.

Hopefully, this 101.5 signal will get into Sacramento better than its sister 92.1 KCCL,
i.e., as more than just a "car signal"...

Last evening, while "in the yard" (i.e., Raley Field, home of the Sacto RiverCats), I had
to bring my "G.E. SuperRadio I" to hear the team's flagship station, since my ordinary radios
can either barely receive, or not receive at all, KCCL's fringe signal in the yard's confines...

Yes, some people in the stands noticed my oversized radio... ;D

Newsperson responds:

it's unlikely they will simulcast especially since 92.1 broadcasts the RiverCats. It's more likely they will market the two stations as covering all the Sacramento Market and sell it as a combo.

Yes they could change 101.5 Mhz. to a different format that better fits in the Sacramento Market.

Any ideas for a new format on 101.5?

Let's see we already have a Jack format and that is tiresome. The oldies are covered along with Old School & R. & B.

What's a good void that should be filled now?

I will look for your responses.

How about a 1960s-2000s MOR-ish contemporary/personality station,
sort of a "KCRA 1320" or "KNBR 68" for the new millennium?...

A little "softer" than KYMX 96.1 - there is an audience for that, no?...

Oh, wait, that means the station will need to pay for the
personalities...never mind...just a...thought...

What about something to compete with 98 Rock and the Eagle?

Better yet what about AAA there's really nothing like that in the market right now. As far as paying for personalities, KMJE currently has 2 local jocks not saying that they fit a new format, but at least they are part of a budget.

Why not give 80's another shot?

Triple A makes real good sense (and maybe real good dollars too!)...this is a rock town.

How far out is the time line from actually having a station?

I'd love to see a good AAA station here in Sac. I remember the Point did that in the mid/late 90's. but they were too afraid to rock it up a little. To mellow for my tastes

If I were choosing (unfortunately I'm not dammit), I would put a AAA station on there. The money demo is good and over time (with management patience) it can become a great legacy station for a market. Look at KFOG and KBCO... Two GREAT AAA stations that stuck with it, made it local and have some very loyal listeners. These loyal listeners also tend to have a lot of spendable cash. I did AAA in Vegas before management lost their stones and turned the Point "Classic Hits"... We had just finished the fall book and after the switch, we moved into top 3 25-54, with afternoon drive at #1. I subsequently went into engineering...
