Noticed something driving into work today. I've got an HD deck in my car. In punching around, you can always tell the difference once it synchs the "HD" signal. KMJQ's HD/Digital side sounds terrible. I'm not sure how they're dividing the bandwidth, but their digital signal sounds like someone put the radio inside of a sleeping bag. Most other stations sound the same, maybe a little better.
Most Clear Channel stations in HD sound better then their analog station. KLOL is a great example. The difference is very clear. A "hats off" to their engineers.
Radio One has the worst. KROI HD sounds the same (if not worse) than their analog. KBXX had the same problem that KMJQ had, but it seems like they fixed the audio to sound exactly the same as the analog.
Some of KAMA's Songs are not recorded in stereo so the music sounds the same in both streams. The same cannot be said about KLTN since you can also hear a great improvement in HD.
KILT suffers the same problem as KMJQ. I don't know if they fixed it yet, but their audio was bad in HD. The KHJZ sounded good in HD.
Cox has oneproblem. KHTC sounds good, but their HD-3 audio of NOAA sounds like crap. KHPT has a notable improvement. KKBQ sounds fairly the same on both stations.
KRBE also has an improvement. Jack sounds great in HD as well (KRBE-HD2). KFNC had their HD on and off through the months of January and February. Last I checked, my HD light blinked, but it never picked up any signal and data from the station (like Call letters)
KQQK and KTJM have finally been synchronized after all that time. I hear a slight improvement on KQQK, but KTJM volume is a bit down when compared to its analog signal.
All these observations were done in Mid-Frebruary, so Don't hold my word since many stations may have fixed their problems.
On the AM side, Both Clear channel stations sound good, but Radio Disney sounds like it is not at its fullest potential. I think that covers all of the Commercial HD stations.
