KMKS-Bay City Now 100,000

Effective last night around 8pm, Hot Country 102.5- KMKS in Bay city is now 100,000 watts. I am curious to see how much this changes our coverage. Especially in the Victoria area (Jras). Please do me a favor and see if you are able to pick us up. On scan first, then fine tune.

Thanks!

I just spoke to a friend of mine in Victoria. You can't receive the Bay City stage on scan or fine tune. It's going to be a move in to Houston.

They said the signal shadows in the car and no reception in house. It would be pretty stupid for a out of town country station to try to take on KIXS....they've beat back every country competitor for 15 years.

That’s weird. I've talk to a couple of others in vict today. The audio in the car is MUCH better than it was before, and they were able to pick us up in a woodframe home... It was a self tune boom box, not a digital scan.

No desire to take on KIXS, although our format is a bit different from theirs. Besides, there are way too many stations in Victoria, no since in putting all our eggs in that basket. However, I am happy with our "regional coverage" Brazoria and Ft. Bend county, south towards Victoria.

Intesesting....KIXS is so regional right now it's unbelievable. Coverage to Sinton, east to Wharton, past Halletsville and north to Gonzales. The only wasted part of the KIXS signal is the Gulf of Mexico. Their 100kW at a 1000 feet makes them a 10 county favorite.

I wish I would of checked this earler I was just down there! I didnt tune in to KMKS this week, not to big on country music any more ;) I'll let you know next time I am in!

With going down on the tower (I think about 30 feet though) I don't think it's going to make a HUGE difference coverage wise, but probably enhance it over their past signal in terms of picketing, etc.

The math of the situation is that doubling your power is a 3 db increase in signal strength. That means it will penetrate building better, but probably won't actually go much farther than it did in the past. To go farther, you'd need to raise the height of the antenna. FM pretty well stops at the horizon as viewed from the radiating element of the antenna. Perhaps, that is an over simplification. but you get the idea.

Anyway, congratulations on the power increase. It will help.

Tuned to 102.5 in my car this evening in Port Isabel (RGV) and KMKS was fighting it out with 102.5-Reynosa. I'm assuming it was KMKS. I know of no other country station on 102.5. Pretty good considering the Reynosa station is only 65 miles away and KMKS is..............far

I think we have been having atmopheric conditions the last few days. Tropos, skip..whatever . I know there are a few on this board that know the science of it more than me. I live in Port Lavaca, and the Victoria stations, just 25 miles aways, have been scitchy with some bleed-over from other stations.

Some may think I am a bit too joyous over this occasion. but As I said on another board..... I still have the pride, passion and joy for radio. Sure it's small market radio, but it's fun as hell!

Here in East Texas the tropo has been intense. This morning about 7:30, I thought my TV was going to be sucked up by the “Mother Ship.” It was about as bad as I’ve ever seen it. I’ll bet it's just as bad in your neck of the woods, which may make evaluating your new power increase a little more difficult.

Thank God there are still some people in radio with a passion for what they are doing. There is no need to apologize. We're a lot smaller than you are, but it still is fun.

I worked at KLUB years ago and we'd have to use the program feed in the studio because of interference in the on-air signal. FOr every 3 local calls we'd get form folks complaining...we'd get a call from JOhnson City or Fredericksburg wondering who the hell we were

LOL, we get the same calls from Western Louisianna, wondering why we flipped from hip-hop.. ;D

BTW, I have been in Port Lavaca for over 14 years. How long ago were you here? Where are you now?

My Test of KMKS it seemed to be more stronger out here, KKPN doesnt seem to really have much effect on them any more. Up in Shiner I gave it a test it worked better also. It might do well around here.
