KMLE gets new afternoon drive

Jeff Mason has been added to the afternoon drive slot on KMLE Country 108 in Phoenix. For the last few years he did middays at country WMZQ/Washington DC. Before that he did country at WKIS/Miami. He has also worked at Top 40’s WIOQ/Philadelphia and WBZZ/Pittsburgh as well as several stations in Chicago.... Jeff Mason will begin afternoon drive on KMLE Country 108 Monday, January 11th, 2010

Not a country fan, but it's too bad Bis Shoe Stu got blown out at KMLE. Conversely, it is nice to see that CBS Phoenix once again thinks that having a real live person in PM drive might just matter. Hopefully, they will restore some of the cuts to KOOL (though Goddard is great).

Interesting. Really weird considering that they got rid of the last two afternooners because of budget cuts. I understand Stu was probably expensive, but I know from a source that Jeff West was making nowhere near what he should have been making. I wonder if they got the "new Jeff" any cheaper.

CBS is not “restoring” anything. They simply hired another unemployed and mediocre talent who will work for peanuts and operate the computer that programs the KMLE music. No big deal and no real money is being spent. As for Goddard, I am sure that when CBS does their next budget cut then he will be next to go. It’s all about money. In the meantime, real talent will continue to sit on the bench. It is the same here in Chicago. Brandmeier was recently budget cut by WLUP. Hey maybe Johnny B. and Pratt can pool their big money and buy their own station!

OMG, then they could worry about their art without the suits!

Until the money ran out. But they should do it! I think a lot of big talent should do exactly that. Put their money where their mouth is and rake in what they're worth! Come on, talk to most of them - How hard is it to be a sales pig?

Radio as a hobby. The new golf.

We've got some great talent on the Radio Free Phoenix airwaves, and we all donate our time. Like most of us radio junkies, if you love it, you will do it for free :) We have the ultimate artistic freedom, and derive great satisfaction in creating this type of radio. So very fulfilling and fun.

The door is always open to all our friends, who find themselves on the beach, certainly not for lack of talent!

Thanks to Andy Olson for creating a world class, underground rock radio station. Five and a half years and still rocking the planet, from the Sonoran Desert, USA.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Brandmeier could not generate ratings in PPM. That's not a budget cut, for the same reason that ER did not have a 16th season.
