KMNT/KELA/KITI

How are you guys doing?  With the flood waters,  I have 'em on my mind.  Hope the best, prepare for the worst.  If you need a hand, send a message.

How come nobody wonders how we've held up way out here in Aberdeen? Two days ago EVERY road out of town was closed... Hwy 12, 101, 105, 109.

Well, in case somebody was ready to ask, we did okay. Our 4 stations didn't lose any airtime, and provided extensive coverage. Seattle media ignored us; even the mail didn't get through.

KITI/Live 95 stayed on the air for the duration...i don't think any water reached that radio station....KMNT & KELA had to move their trailers (they were using trailers for offices/studios) since they didn't really recover from the floods from dec. '07. i know KELA went off the air for a little bit, but is now simulcasting with KMNT. KITI on the overnight hours are simulcasting with Live 95. i don't think that there was much water where KELA/KMNT is located on S. Gold, since the businesses across the street are back in business, so we were lucky out here

With all due respect Bill - while the road closures certainly were an inconvenience (and knocking out mail delivery as noted) you should thank your lucky stars that things DIDN'T get so bad as to warrant sending the satellite trucks to Grays Harbor County.

So this building http://www.fybush.com/Tower%20Site/070209/kela.jpg is gone?

They couldn't have at least flown over with the 'copter and dropped us some digital tv converter boxes.

They did report on a house fire in Aberdeen today. Not sure that's radio related.
Glad you made it through Bill.

Was in Thurston & Mason counties yesterday and checked out KITI. Was very impressed...they were doing local news break and special flood reports, etc. It was a sad reminder of the difference between local radio ownership and the bigger fish as I don't think Clear Channel would have staffed weekend news even if the station was smack in the middle of a disaster area.

KUDO to KITI.

the KELA/KMNT studios are not gone. they haven't been able to renovate the studio and looking at the possibility of moving into another building...out of the flood zone. the building took in about 5.5 ft of water in 1996 and 6' in '07.

btw: KELA/KMNT is no longer owned by clear channel, but is owned by bi-coastal media.

KUDOS to KITI.
Their Web site has extensive reports as well. Phenomenal for a small-town operation!
