I love listening to Johnny Rabbitt's show on Saturday nights via my Sanyo WiFi radio on KMOX. I notice that he doesn't use any vintage KMOX jingles. Are there any around? And if so, wonder why he doesn't use them??
I'm confused. Wasn't he on KXOK in the "Johnny Rabbit" era? Was KMOX ever Top 40? Even if he doing a nostalgia show on KMOX, that wasn't THE station back in the day. Am I right?
KMOX has never had a strictly music format - it is pretty much the granddaddy of the modern News/Talk format with the "At Your Service" format created by the late Robert Hyland dating back to the mid fifties, when Top 40 was taking hold.
BTW, the Johnny Rabbit on KMOX IS NOT the one who was famed on KXOK - that was the late Don Pietromonaco. However, Ron Elz was the first to use the name, a trademark of Storz Broadcasting, and has been using on air in St. L continuously since the early 70s.
And, yes KMOX does have jingles - Randy Raley used to play them when he hosted the Route 66 show, and I have heard them at various times over the years when KMOX used to air late night music programming, as they did until the Early-Mid 90s.
Thanks for the info. I'm not in the St. Louis area so I wouldn't know all the little tid-bits that others may know. Again thanks mbatchelor for the information and helping those who are confused.
