KMOX NOSTALGIA

Just a quick, "Awesome!" One side of my family hails from St. Louis and Jerseyville. I remember listening to KMOX with my Grandfather back in the 1970's through the 1990's, when we'd go visit. Cardinals baseball, Cards football, general news etc. About two weeks ago, I was listening to AM radio, on a $7 "Con-Air" AM/FM radio. While tuning stations, I picked-up KMOX crystal clear, at about 7 p.m. EST. It was really neat to here KMOX over-the-air, on a $7 radio. Memories flooded back to St. Louis summers...and yes, the winters too. I was excited, so I called relatives in the Seattle area (St. Louis natives), and had them listen to the station through the telephone line; what a kick! Anyways, thanks for the memories....I picked-up KMOX...on a $7 radio...from my home...over-the-air...from the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Cool.

You will be able to hear Cardinals baseball on KMOX starting this spring. After five years they are going back to the "Mighty MOX."

Nowadays, with more stations in the USA and elsewhere occupying former "clear channels", and also former daytime stations getting nighttime authorization, the night coverage of these once-great stations is not what it used to be.....however, KMOX is one of the exceptions to the rule. I live in south Florida, and heard them as late as about 7:45 am one Saturday morning about 2 months ago.

And it's also interesting that a true clear like KMOX will have baseball once more....even the days of sports teams on clear channels isn't what it used to be.

I posted about a month ago in the DX thread----take away the western states, and KMOX has got ya covered!

Maybe baseball on the clears is coming back: Orioles just reupped with WBAL after 5 years elsewhere (WJZ-FM).

Maybe baseball on the clears is coming back>>

That'd be kind of a surprise. Avoiding the clears seemed to force baseball junkies to go satellite, which increased baseball revenues. But I'm no expert on the subject. Might be a much more complicated strategy to it.

I heard that was one of the desires of the league with the mlb.com streaming package. They could get more subs if the teams weren't on clears. Too bad they couldn't go to the other extreme: shortwave. Then everybody on the planet could hear the broadcasts (New Orleans Saints did this in the mid-late '90s on WRNO)! Then again, ESPN might get wind of that & want to bring ESPN Radio into every last mud hut on the planet!

My uncle, who lived near Waterbury CT was a BIG Cards fan. He "introduced" me to the world of listening to BB on the out of market stations. But St. L was his fav..
He had a good radio and getting 1120 was easy despite a 1130 in NYC.
FWIW KMOX is a nitely visitor here in Centtral MA and SW Fla.
It will be enjoyable listening to some of their nite games this season. I have a Bose Wave-although not the strongest AM tuner, there is no interference from 1110 Charlotte or 1130 NYC.
