KMPH - 840 Back in Modesto?

Listening to KOMY, Watsonville on 1340 from Selva Beach / Santa Cruz, have heard legal ID's stating from station owner (along with KSCO, Santa Cruz. "KOMY, Selva Beach and KMPH, Modesto" on the air, going into CBS News.

Any news and/or ideas on this. KMPH has been silent for two years. 5 kw with 4-towers day, 5-towers nights.

What's up with this? Pappas looking just to cover the STA for another extension while the station is dark? How come Michael Zwerling is involved and why a simulcast with the 1 kw KOMY? Thanks.

840 Modesto was on the air this morning when I drove up CA. 99 with the usual spanish language programs!

On Monday morning? Sure it wasn't 860 from San Francisco?

840 in Modesto has been off the air since Friday afternoon (April 19). The programming contract for KMPH, held by Paulino Bernal Evangelism, is no longer in effect. If you heard Spanish-language programming on Monday morning on 840 AM, it was not on KMPH.

That's right - nothing on 840 since last Friday.

Except for about two minutes to make sure the STL was working at about 12:45 PM today.

Any other spanish language stations on 840 in the US or Mexico?

There are three in the US: one in CT, one in SC and one in PR.

Mexico has quite a few:

840 CAMPECHE XECUC Campeche. (
840 CHIAPAS XEIO “La Más Picuda*” Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
840 GUANAJUATO XEFG “La Pachanga***” Celaya.
840 JALISCO XEXXX “Fiesta Mexicana**/Fiesta Digital” Tamazula de Gordiano.
840 NAYARIT XETEY “Radio Sensación**” Tepic.
840 TAMAULIPAS XEMY “La Jefa*” Ciudad Mante.
840 VERACRUZ XEPV “La Fiera Grupera**” Papantla de Olarte.

However, many of these are migrating or may have completed migration to FM and may have closed down the AM facility by now.

No, it is all talk. Alex Jones, Rich Lieberman (yuck), Sharks hockey, new talk shows late afternoon every couple of weeks. Weekends are horrible, too.

Can't figure why the ID remains "KOMY, La Selva Beach - Watsonville and KMPH, Modesto."

Would really would like to know.

Thanks for your input and thanks to David Eduardo for chiming in. Been a while since we last conversed. Good guy. A good board, here, thanks to those with input.

KMPH is back on the air, as of 7 PM (PDT) on Monday evening. It will be carrying KOMY's feed for the time being, but will switch to local programming in the next few weeks.

I heard not a feed from KOMY but KYA feed just before signal either went off air or went directional at about 7:45pm.

Testing the day and night patterns at the transmitter site in Waterford, and the inbound audio feeds at the Norwegian studio. The KYA audio was a test (errrrr, CB interference) to see if Internet was working into the studio.

I hear that KMPH 840 is back on,seems like they carry KOMY/KSCO in the Santa Cruz area, with occasional programming not from KOMY/KSCO.
Does anybody know if there are real plans for this station,is it sold to new owners ?
What will the actual format be ?

Playing wall-to-wall Oldies right now, mostly because the imaging package hasn't arrived yet. (Maybe tomorrow? Wednesday? August?)

Special thanks to Michael Zwerling, Billy Graff, Richard Luther and Rich Lieberman for a big assist (and the loan of KOMY's audio) and to the peerless Paul Shinn, who simply gets stuff done.

The Oldies on 840 KMPH today and yesterday sound over-processed.

A Whole Lotta "Crunching" Going On.

Maybe the audio settings as they are, are good for Talk programming. But Over Compressed music
is Not the best presentation of the Oldies.???

I've been listening in Elk Grove. Although the signal is marginal here, I like the oldies mix they are playing. I'm hearing "Cindy's Birthday" (Johnny Crawford) "High Heel Sneakers" ( Tommy Tucker) "Be Bop A Lula" (Gene Vincent) It's not the overplayed CCR and Elton John that a lot of stations go for. Are they giving 920 a run for their money?
