KMPS' Don Riggs

After 55 years in radio, Don Riggs of the KMPS "Waking Crew" will be hangin' up the headphones after
his last show on APRIL 11th. He also worked at KISW, KIRO AM and KVI AM before joining KMPS 33
years ago.

Are you KIDDING?! Don always said that he would never retire. I hope his health is good. And I REALLY hope KMPS isn't pushing him out the door. Don Riggs is an A-number one Class Act. There aren't many like him. He'll be sorely missed if indeed he is heading for the beach.

Thanks, Don. I distinctly remember as a child listening every morning to Phil Harper, Patty Parr and Don Riggs. We looked forward to the Friday Morning Competition every Friday. I cried the day Phil announced his departure. I have wondered for years what became of Patty. And have cherished the last remaining remnant of the radio of my childhood in Don Riggs. Again, THANK YOU, DON!

I just perused through KMPS's website. (Perhaps one of the WORST station websites in Seattle.) I didn't see a thing about this announcement. If this is really true KMPS should be ashamed. They should have the biggest tribute announcement on that site ever, including a forum for faithful listeners to chime in with some of their favorite memories over the years. I hope they do a really good LAST SHOW retrospective for Don on Friday and bring in as many of the old KMPS pals that they can find who are still around and kickin'.

KMPS's Don Riggs is Seattle's LAST legendary newscaster. Don Riggs is one of the people I thought would NEVER go away. To hear this news hurts....BAD!

God Bless You Don......

Who is EVER gonna fill HIS shoes?

I was one of the FORTUNATE ones who had the privilege of working with Don for a year in the early years. It may be an overused expression, but Don IS the consummate pro. 55, count 'em, 55 years is a long time to work in ANY profession, let alone radio! That tells you a lot about the newsman, the communicator, the man!
Don, you're the BEST and good luck in whatever the future holds for you. ENJOY—you’ve more than earned it young man!!
