KMPS Mornings?

I'll say this. For years KMPS was almost arrogant regarding their domination and market clout. (the entire staff, on air and sales especially)

In the early 2000's they thought they were unbeatable and they were. But, kind of like
Massachusetts, they took a lot for granted and then Fitz emerged and well, I don't see any reincarnation
of the KMPS morning show beating him for a while. Someone posted earlier that no companies are hiring
talent, but Carson Daily did just sign for AMP in LA. So maybe the suits are seeing the obvious results of the past losing strategy. I agree Randy has some talent. He is a great writer, but I do think that the quarterback analogy is very applicable here, people don't get excited when the star exists and the 'back up' is now elevated to star position. We just don't buy it.

"Give the people what they want." - Ray Davies of The Kinks

I don't think Fitz's show is all that good either though...it's kinda hacky show prep bits. But if he's getting ratings, more power to him. I guess the more music in the morning is the wave of the future, yet I don't know anyone that wants that...people want to be entertained on their way to work or school. For music they listen to their iPod. The PPM is wrong, I just wish someone with some amazing talent would come in and blow the socks off this city in the mornings and prove it. As for KMPS, they need to bring in a solid lead host. Steven and Randy or Randy and Steven or whatever they want to go by just aren't it...I can't listen anymore.

How does an entire radio station show arrogance regarding market clout? By not reacting to the competition? And if they do, people chide them for knee-jerking. And what makes you feel KMPS took anything for granted? I'm asking sincerely, with no sarcasm. Are these things that can be measured or are they just the feelings of some listeners? It's sort of like anthropomorphizing to me.

How's the Randy and Stephen Show doing? Are they a hit? Was Ichabod a waste of money this past year? Stations do this to save money, is it working for KMPS?
Are the days of true morning talent gone?

I know too many questions.

No verdict yet from the jury, but I do know that 10 songs is more than two. It will be interesting to see how the Country audience, even the 18-34 demo will react to that.

There is still talent in the morning, just not to the liking of this board.

Gary,

Robin and Dave in town this week. Talked to Dave and they love Montana. Plan on building a new home this summer. Money talks, but with the state of radio and the economy there's hardly a chance.
Would be nice to stop this downward spiral. Slayton, Ick, West, Riemer, T-man, Fastlane, Day, Ricker, I'm sure I'm missing others.

D, spent some time with Dave on Wednesday and tonight the old crew is getting together. They are very happy in Montana, great place to be sure. I do know this, Robin LOVES Country Music, so who knows! I think it would be a nice refreshing addition to have them back on the air period.
Be safe,
Gary

Crowsky: Please extend our greetings to R&M and the crew. Some of us out here miss them like crazy. Would love to see them do some sort of holiday specials or even something canned or SOMETHING just to give us long-time crazy fans something to look for every now and then.

Monkeygirl, WOW are you wAAAAAAAAy off...

By February 1st, there will be a change.

Why say, look at today's date, won't you?

I looked at the ratings periods wrong....my bad. They come out on Thurs for the first full month that they have been on the air...that is when the dootie may hit the fan.

If you miss them individually as much as collectively, check out www.recordbinroulette.com. John has fun putting this together (and it airs weekly [weakly?] on KPLU).

THANK YOU, LBB! I followed your link and listened to every episode they have on the podcast online this morning. John sounds great! What a fun little show. I'll definitely keep listening to it & appreciate your pointing me that direction!

Uh-huh. That was last Thursday? I believe we're into March now and almost a week since your second assertion that Randy & Stephen were in KMPS' morning slot temporarily. Now who's "wAAAAAAAAy off... "?

How'd those ratings blow...I mean go? Who did the PD have meetings with at the big country radio convention last week? I'll admit it didn't happen as fast I said it would, but it will, and when it does, please be ready to eat the proverbial crow. Have you listened to the show at all? (or are you ON the show.....) It's not 1/10th the quality show it was when Icky was there, and the Wolf is kicking it's buttocks, and their show is pretty lame to start with, so that says a lot. Sure their 15 minutes may have been extended, but it is saving CBS a TON of cash until the new show is brought in. Tick. Toc. Tick. Toc.

I can't even STAND TO LISTEN! It's is a train wreck, and the crash is coming.
As a matter of fact, the ONLY times I listen anymore is mid-morning, and afternoons.
