KMPS Mornings?

It's the same guys that have been there all along, minus Ichabod and his wife, who was a fairly recent addition, wasn't she? (No, Sandy G., I'm not on the show. I'd be honest about that if it were the case.)

You really feel it's that different than it was before? Give me an example or two, I don't have a chance to listen much anymore. Train wreck? It's really that horrible to you? Who do you listen to now?

I can understand if you were a big fan of Ichabod's, not liking the change, but some of you have been saying you know jocks in other markets that were offered Randy & Stephen's jobs and they were only kept as placeholders, so where are all these new, out of market people? How long is it going to take them to get here? Anyone want to shoot for another date? Or are you just engaged in wishful thinking and spreading malicious rumors?

Eating Crow! MMmmmm! Tasty!

No, not at all surprised, unfortunately, just hoping to get someone to put thier money where their mouth is. I'm all for ranting and I like hyperbole, but when someone alleges the sort of things that have been said here, I'd like to see them separate facts from personal feelings.

FACT: Ratings are down.
FACT: The other country morning show has grown
FACT: The "suits" are talking to other hosts

Also, it may be possible that Icky still has some pay coming from CBS so they don't want to pay a new host until they have finished their obligation.

No personal feelings here. I, like a lot of other people on this board, as well as actual listeners, think this show is pretty bad...thus the ratings and revenue of the show.

I agree on the first two. If you KNOW about the third assertion you made, give us names, gives us dates?.Or, if KMPS changes anyone on the show in a year or two, will you be here claiming you told us so? And which "suits" are you talking about? Becky Brenner, Lisa Decker or higher up in CBS?

If you're going to make a prediction based on facts, be specific. Otherwise, we're going to assume you're just another board-op, wanna-be talking out of your backside.

Get over yourself. Do you know the circumstances why Ichabod left KMPS, and realize how much time they have had to work on this?

Do you really think that CBS is going to spend one or two hours looking for someone in such a marquee show? Do you think that they're just going to hear a show and ask the talent to move to Seattle in a day or two? Do you realize there is a considerable amount of time needed for something like this?

Wake up before you start accusing others of either being a board-op or not knowing what's going on. Because the more you say, the more you look like someone who doesn't have a clue as to what goes on in radio.

Yes, I do know why Ichabod left and how long management knew that was a possibility. But I'm referring to this

I give this one 20 days, tops.

And this

Supposedly this is a stopgap until the new year when the KMPS brain trust will decide what direction to take the morning show in.

Come back in a month and let's see what happens.

By February 1st, there will be a change.

I looked at the ratings periods wrong....my bad. They come out on Thurs for the first full month that they have been on the air...that is when the dootie may hit the fan.
I wasn't the one who predicted Randy & Stephen would be gone by January 19th, then February 1st, THEN the 25th or said I had friends in Phoenix who were offered the positions last calendar year. I know how long it takes to get a good morning show together. If it turns out I was wrong about Randy & Stephen being mere placeholders for a couple of guys from Arizona, I'll say it. All's I'm doing is asking these people who claim to know what's going on inside to put up or shut up. Four predicted dates have already passed. If the show doesn't work out, of course it'll be replaced, but that's not the same as being stuck in the position until management can move the planned hosts into place. That's all I'm saying.

If KMPS is looking to add another talent to the morning show, I can think of several good host on the beach in Seattle. These people may not be looking but Cashman, FL Phillips, Marty Riemer, Mike West, Maynard, Jim Dai, Mark Christopher, Steve Slayton, Tall Paul, how about a country T-Man reunited with Kilbreath! Who am I forgetting?
How about a outlaw Ricker! (drop the gangster ha ha) Hey outlaw

How long until Ick is snatched up. I'm sure he has a 6 month non compete, but he would be perfect for a Hot Oldies station.

As AQH pointed out in another thread; why is it some of you on this board cry for 'something new', yet in the next breath gravitate back to, what could be considered, has-beens of the old days?

If these people you mentioned were such rating magnets, then why aren't they on the air anymore? The answer? Quite simple really; this is a new day and the listeners have finally spoken. Give us free music and a lot of it. Coincidentally, giving the listeners what they want keeps the costs down too!

Hey guru, thanks for officialy racking me in the has been file. It's not to often I check in here but it's great to be among the mentioned air talent when the thread gets to what happened to radio. I only hope that when your turn comes to be shuttled out for larger profit, which will happen, anybody can remember your name. Or want to.

Jim Dai

Jim, don't let the self-proclaimed "gurus" bother you. You are one of my favorites and I miss your morning show on KIXI.

Well said Jim!
Look at the latest PPM 25-54, personality is doing well in the AM, in fact the only exception is the Jack in The Box guy. Music directors take note! Spot free hours and lower units work. I have nothing against something new, but at this time of uncertain, most of the audience likes comfort of the familiar.
Point is, we don't need a morning show from Phoenix or wherever at KMPS, there's plenty of local current and past well rated talent. Guru, I know you're a excellent head engineer and know the biz very well. I like your posts and am glad you're not always on the mark, but most often not far off.

(Laughing).. Dunno, you appear to be living up to your name. Among other things, you clearly dunno me either. I've hired my fair share of engineers, even have a couple consulting engineers as friends, but have never been one myself.

This board always keeps me amused though as compared with other radio boards. People say some of the most bizarre things.

As for Mr Day's comments.. I honestly wish that I could categorize you as a has-been, but I've frankly never heard of you, sorry. Am I to assume by your post that you've been working in the Seattle-Tacoma radio market for a long time? If so, I've not seen your name come up in any research. Of course, I've not been working in the Northwest for many years, just a visitor at my home in the San Juan's.

(Also laughing) And I have a hard time believing that someone who calls himself a "guru" doesn't know who Jim Dai is or even how to spell his name. It takes more than calling yourself a guru to actually become one...if you really are in some position of power and you really know this market that poorly- well then it is no wonder this industry is broke and broken.

BTW, San Juan would like his island back. You did say it was "San Juan's," correct?

I've not been employed in the Northwest for several years, but was in a consulting role some six years ago. During that time I'd not seen his name appear in any research or focus groups, so no, it appears that Jim (at least at that time) wasn't one of the top or high-profile air talent in the Seattle-Tacoma market. Not meant as an insult, just the facts. We weren't focused on AM stations either, so if Jim had been on a talk or other AM station then I wouldn't have seen data on him.

Currently I live in the Los Angeles area and travel between LA, NY/NY, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and Miami. If you were paying attention to previous posts of mine, you would have read that my parents owned some land and home on one of the San Juan Islands. For the purpose of this discussion, the actual island is irrelevant. I do enjoy visiting the PNW, and have friends in the radio industry within the Sea/Tac market which I stay in touch.

So tell us Coyote; what do you do in radio? Where do you live?

... and there is the issue Ladies and Gentlemen :D :D

HMMMMMM....Randy and Steven haven't done one of their "funny" videos since 2/26.....there's LOTS more music, it seems, being played in the morning now.....hmmmmmm.
