has anyone noticed that they are now calling themselves "the new 94-1 kmps"?

For a 35 year old station, that's a bit of a stretch......

To be fair, there is an awful lot that's new. Almost the entire air staff, new image package. Is there more? has the music shifted? Clocks, anything?

i'll bet anyone $94.10, that one year from this date they will still be calling themselves "the new". its one of the oldest gimmicks in radio to stir up interest. it obviously worked here. what is this new image packaging for kpms? nothing but hot air. same sh*t, different package. no, i havent and no i wont, be conned into listening. not too long ago, i was forced to listen to that annoying wolf howl countrypolitan station, for an hour or so nightly, while i loaded my truck at a warehouse. i noticed they packaged themselves as "the new" continuously for well over a year. but, at least i got a chance to critique the current country crap music at the time, which seemed to feature a lot of force fed phony redneck anthom songs, by a bunch of pretty boys singin about stuff they probably aint lived, surrounded by noisy, pop influenced watered down production, aimed at the young urban demographic, uneducated on their country, listener. the anecdote to all that ear stench i endured, was a good hour on the road with some real red-blooded rednecks like hank williams jr., charlie daniels, johnny paycheck, merle haggard, george jones, kieth whitley, alan jackson and vern gosdin. ya, back to the "real" world.

Dude, get some help for your anger issues.

thanks for the phsyco analysis of me. but, it is not anger, but just forceful, opinionated, and effective comments on some legitimate facts about the topic started. you want anger, then here:*@X^%$&*#X#$@!!!!!!!! there, it had to be said. if i ruffled your feathers, fellow with the 3 initials, post your counterpoint to mine on the original topic someone started. so you like the almost entire new air staff at kpms? what is the difference tween the old air staff? the DJ(or whatever we call them now) has a few seconds to read a hyped contest promo, and a station liner tag over loud bead music, and then back into the music set. is this live or voice tracked? not much room for any personality or real radio talent here, when the choke collar and chain is on. what about a change in the music? are they playing rascal flat 40 times a day now, instead of 35? or is that boy band out of fasion now? oh, hey i forgot to add this to my prior rant. what about that speeded up compressed music they play? does that increase listenability or what? someone help me out here, as i am an old dinasaur trying to be hip to the radio scene of big city slicker country corporate radio.

i could be wrong, but I think The Wolf still says "The New" and they've been on-air for nearly 5 years!

I for one feel there should be a law for EVERY radio station with a call sign, format and image older than one year to STOP identifying itself as "The New (Whatever)" Especially on an older station like KMPS. Because all you're implying is you've screwed up somewhere and you're begging for a second chance. And that's hardly the case with a station like KMPS.

Disclaimer up front: I don't know %%%% (generally or about this topic)

But any chance that a minor little club like, oh say CBS, might end up with some, oh say, ******** consultant who winds up in, oh say New York, and issues something like an oh say, "edict" that "this is what you need to do" because this person has up to three years of major market experience and, oh say, looks GREAT in a suit that makes the corporate people happy .... and is, oh say, in a great position to tell veteran programmers to try something that every signal in this market has already done, oh say, 25 times by the time the consultant filled his first diaper?

I'm just puttin' it out there.....

here is some news from "the old" KMPS: Ichabod sighting!!!!!! according to "the leader newspaper" of jefferson county, ichabod caine and scallops have found a new gig.........but it aint radio. they worked the jeffco home show last sunday, may 2. the jeffco home show insert says "if you miss them on the radio, like we do, come on out and see them at the fairgrounds". one wonders if this veteran air personality may have a place on an AM puget sound signal, if there aint no FM's that can accomodate him? here is my sales pitch: ichabod is well loved by many, right? he has very positive ratings amongst the G rated family/christian 30+ crowd. put this man in the morning chair on an AM'er, with a more mature(no teeny music noise) sounding country playlist featuring a lot of 90's music, and even currents, and some new. let ichabod be ichabod, in regards to creativity, and even some music selections. my belief is this station would get some decent numbers, on the strength of a well loved seattle radio veteran via the AM signal, and internet. anyone know what kind of numbers he scored in the last year? or anti compete clauses in the contract?

I wonder if anyone at the brain trust of Christa has thought about his crew for KCMS?

Maybe...I know their PD hates the current morning show.

...oh wait...the PD is the morning show...who has solid ratings...and is cheap...

But, sure you could be right.

this must be part of "the new". yes, i admit i listened to a few minutes here and there of this cody allen syndication broadcast a night or so ago on kpms, for critique purposes. kind of reminded me of a male version of a female hollywood anchor/reporter on an entertainment tonight style show. the giddyness, and such excitement this boy cody showed for the amazing superstars of todays countrypolitan, and all the twitter rumours, and so on.............i actually think i would rather hear the former kpms allnighter personalityless slogan/contest voice track/or is it live reader, over the loud bead music, better than this superficial holyweird cotton candy fluff. thank God for XM/sirius in my truck.... case closed

Scott,

Don't think you're in KMPS's target audience anymore. I enjoy your posts, and I do believe XM is made for you! As far as your hopes for Ick on AM, we've been done this road before on this board. Music, except for a few stations just doesn't work.
Keep on truckin!

If you want a clue to the bigger picture -- just take a look at CBS' KILT Houston. Legendary. Morning team there since 1960's (same name though people who "played" those characters changed over the years) -- blown out last month. What was built into a legend over decades destroyed from pulling out one component of the morning show after another. Some of you, of course, will claim that something like that NEEDS to change -- but those are the same people who will probably claim Walter Cronkite sucked as a news anchor because he had the job too long.

Bottom line: CBS is a shadow of what it once was.
