KMRQ Facilities Change

The ever so active (when it comes to upgrades) Clear Channel has been awarded at CP to move KMRQ to a full Class A 6Kw with a city of license of Riverbank from Manteca.

How did they do that?

Clear Channel convinced and/or paid Crawford to apply to move the COL of KCBC (and upgrade their nighttime facility) from Riverbank to Manteca.

Imagine the possibilities if they would also paid closer attention to what they put over the air :)

The Manteca COL of KMRQ was short spaced with KSEG and had to be moved south in order to be upgraded to the full Class A status.

Where is the TL going to be and will KMRQ serve Merced?

Just north of Modesto. No, the station WILL NOT put a usable signal over Merced. Will you be able to pick it up in Merced? Maybe. It will probably be just as strong as Modesto's KJSN 102.3 is in Merced.

And another station that Stockton will lose. Which station is next? Will KQOD move their city of license to Turlock?

An interesting document to peruse is the "Community Of License Change Agreement" between Clear Channel (Capstar) and Crawford (Kiertron, Inc.), which is minus the redacted "KCBC/KMRQ Project Budget" on page 5, which would have made this document all the more interesting.

The site info for KCBC, soon to be serving the good folks of Manteca (who have desperately needed a station of KCBC's strength and quality), can be found here on the FCC website, and includes a swell Google Earth photo of the transmitter plant on the nether edge of beautiful Oakdale.

Stockton didn't really have KMRQ.
I know but I can pick it up now though not as good as I did back when they were KVFX (and before that, KIZS, KSJQ, KROI, KORY and before that KQKK). When they replaced the transmitter that was vandalized in 1997, it never became the same. Stockton also used to pick up, KOSO but we all know what happened to them. As for the KQOD comment, it was sarcastic, though I do have to admit that KQOD's studios are in Modesto and not Stockton, their city of license.

That's a good move. Then I can heard the Eagle without the interference when going thru Modesto, Salida and Ripon on 99 and out west on 120 thru Manteca to Tracy on 205. 96.7's transmitter is really in Ripon not Manteca. I think Stockton will hear it just as good especially going from 1500 to 6000 watts depending on the height of the tower. I am not sure if it is going to be a directional or non-directional pattern though, but I think it would be a fairly smart move. 96.7's signal currently stretches Lodi to Turlock. I also believe the coverage area would be similar to 102.3's coverage. I know from listening, 102.3's signal goes from Lodi to Atwater. Merced is a little weak unless you hit the right spot, but, that is probably what it will be unfortunately, spotty in Merced. This I gotta see. ::)
