KMRX 101.5

As one who likes to document past favorite stations and the alt/modern rock format in general, was wondering if anyone could give me any info on KMRX, including:

sign on and sign off dates for the alt. format
jocks and programming staff/where are they now?

and airchecks of course would be great, but I'm not sure if they exist.

Liked this station a lot, they were a more adult choice compared to the rap-rock The Edge was spinning at the time, and they had some cool new music features where they would play a lot of new records that 104.5 didn't. Although 104.5 also had a period where they had a new music/imports/indie show AND homegroan, then modern rock live on Sundays. Short lived IIRC.

I did weekends on KMRX while I was at Clear Channel. I never used an on-air name and was on then schedule as Darth Vader. LOL. That was the first time I had voice-tracked.

I was in the studio at midnight with the rest of the staff and management when we turned the station on. There was a toast. A Change Would Do You Good by Sheryl Crow was the first song we played.

KMRX signed on in November of 1997, and I believe switched to Christian Rock in maybe March of 2001. I don't really remember the names of any of the jocks, except I think Jill Gleeson was on staff briefly after KNRX in OKC switched from Alternative to Soft AC in 1997 or 1998.

Mildly interesting trivia about the frequency:

The station signed on as an FM simulcast of AM 970 / KCFO (preaching / teaching). Name Brand Radio (a Christian rock / alternative show) moved from either Saturday or Sunday nights on 970 to FM 101.5. The station was in mono throughout the week but switched on the stereo pilot for a Christian country block Sunday afternoons & for NBR.

When Clear Channel bought to the station & it went alternative, NBR was kept.

When the station went Christian rock, it was the guys of NBR who programmed & staffed it.

Seth Andrews, who spent many years at KXOJ, was brought over to do mornings during the Christ-Alt phase, & at the switch to The Beat went to 92.1 KISS-FM to do mornings on the CHR.

I remember hearing the alternative sign-on and hearing about the toast... seems like there were some guys (A guy?) from KMOD on the air that night, too... can't remember if they had regular shifts, though.

Elwood, who did nights on KMOD, came over and did mornings when the station launched. Derek (who went to Rock 102.3) also was there for awhile. I believe Dena Fletcher was also on the station.

Here's some useless trivia.

Elwood's real last name was Remington. I never understood why he didn't do something with his real last name. If my last name was "Winchester" or "Colt" I'd use it!!!

Elwood's brother's name is Steve. Steve and I went to high school together.

There. I've contributed.

Dena was afternoons. Brad Jeffers was PD and Mark Owens from KMOD was there too. Mark actually worked at Cox on Mix96 for a short time until landing a PD gig out of state, somewhere in Florida I think.

The station was suppose to push 104.5 back from KMOD.

Though I couldn't tell you when it was (I'm terrible about timelines) I was there and actually in the KMRX studio voicetracking for KIZS the afternoon they switched it to urban. Needless to say, the KMRX phones were nuts and for some reason I felt lead to answer them and console the mourners. I spent a few hours talking with teens that discovered their loss first and explaining the radio facts of life. I finally gave it up when some of the "church folks" got through to tell me I was going to go to hell and so forth.
