KMSB HDTV

Am I going in crazy or wasn't KMSB (ch. 11 analog) (digital/hdtv) from Tucson able to be received in Mesa up to about a year ago ? I know last football season i could get it , but this whole season I could not. Nothing has changed with my setup. I am using an old VOOM receiever for dtv/hdtv reception. Thanks for the help ... ;D

The FCC DB lists an analog LPTV in Phoenix on channel 25. I don't think it's been on that channel for very long - it's possible it moved from some other channel since last football season. That would explain the disappearance of KMSB-DT, which is also on channel 25.

IIRC, K25DM has been on Channel 25 for close to 20 years. It transmits from Shaw Butte in north Phoenix, not South Mountain, so I doubt if they're giving KMSB-DT any problems in Mesa.

It's probably due to the fact that KMSB-DT uses a directional antenna that beams away from Phoenix, probably to protect K25DM and KAZT-DT in Prescott, which is also on Channel 25. KMSB has no need to be viewable in metro Phoenix anyway.

Correct. They signed on in October 1990, first broadcasting from a transmitter near the Deer Valley Airport, then moved to Shaw Butte in early 1993. I cannot even receive K25DM at my palatial west Chandler estate.

Mostly correct. Since K25DM is a secondary signal, KMSB-DT has no obligation to protect it in any way. K25DM must accept any and all interference from any primary broadcaster, such as KMSB-DT or KAZT-DT.

KMSB-DT would have to protect KAZT-DT, though, although I'm sure it's more a matter of both protecting each other. According to the FCC signal range map, KMSB's signal isn't predicted to reach past Casa Grande, Coolidge or Florence.
