KMTT Morning Guy

For the last 3 weeks I have listened, I have heard variations of the following multiple times (at least 10-15 times).......

"7:08 in the Jet City and you're listening to 103.7 the Mountain (into song)

or just

"you are listening to the Mountain" (into song)

The question is why even have someone drawing a salary when this is mainly the stuff that comes out of his mouth? Nothing intelligent to say, just essentially a few live sweepers into a song that an intern could do for a tenth of the price or better yet have them produced and just plugged into a playlist. I mean I can see dropping a show because you want to cut budget, but what is being achieved by paying someone to crack the mic for 2 1/2 seconds and bring nothing else to the table?

Benson's obviously playing to PPM...good luck with that. I'm amused by reference to the "Jet City." Does anyone call Seattle the Jet City anymore?

Radio/TV announcers used to 'term' the city like that on-air in the 60's...

..although I have YET to find any old 60's jingle (KJR, KOL, etc) that even used it..

Ya remember Swing Out Sister (I loved their music). Deal was they named the band because it was the one name they all agreed they hated. Since we don't seem to like "Emerald City" and "Jet City" is dated ... maybe we can get some traction with something like "The Herpes capital of the world" --- something we ALL agree to hate, yet which can get us tons of attention & coverage.

I seem to remember Steve Slaton using that term, plus Queensryche.

PPM is killing AM shows, period. The fact that PPM thinks people were sitting and attentivley listening to Xmas music is proof that the system isn't working. I know that people had the Christmas music on in the office, doctors office, hair salon, stores etc and THAT is the reason the PPM thinks people are actually listening. In some markets (like Pittsburgh) the Christmas station had bigger numbers than stations that have been #1 for decades....so people suddenly just stopped listening to their favorite stations and shows just to hear Santa Claus is Coming to Town???? I say B.S.

The fact that any station is paying a "morning jock" to be a liner reader makes no sense. I still have yet to find a good AM show here in "the Jet City" or "the former Super Sonic City"

The term "Jet City" showed up back in the 60's. I recall the top 40 stations, KJR/KOL and later KING, useing it all the time. "Emerald City" was the result of a contest back in the 80's (?) that I think the City of Seattle tourisim department put on... The intent was to come up with some new colorful makeover type name. Fixing what wasnt broke. The contest was won by a Cal. A guy from San Jose California. The blowback from the contest,( a californian winning) resulted in the "Emerald City" moniker being put in the same catagory as "Say Wa" and others like it. As far as the KMTT mornings go...Odd. Very odd..

Sean has really cut back from his initial audience interaction...I noticed this morning he didn't even banter with his producer/news-chick. A waste of everyone's time IMHO...if PPM is the real reason.

Friends it will always be THE JET CITY! 40 years of tradition, all hail THE JET CITY!

Right Jackson?

Crowski

PS Emerald City has always been far too smarmeeee, period.

Ahh...what would Entercom be without re-hiring the people they previously fired (great track record of doing that)? We used to have a saying that "no one leaves Golden West forever" ... but in that case it was people who stepped away and realized the grass really WAS greener "at home" and wanted back. In this case, it tends to be an admission that a management decision was maybe not-so-great. As Crowski pointed out on another thread .... always great to see the "corporate" mindset in action.

The potential upside is when you ask someone back, SOMETIMES it take a pay-bump from the previous "pay rate" to encourage someone to leave another (often more stable) gig, so it DOES tend to work out well for the rehires.

Well first, about the "Jet City" controversy, please remember what made Seattle famous (BEFORE high-octane coffee, grungy rock and yuppies in the '80 to today wanting to gentrify every damn thing COOL about this town....), Seattle was a town virtually OWNED by Boeing. Think "KJET" as well......

And the Queensryche classic rock anthem "Jet City Woman".....it all falls together......at least better than that wussy "Emerald City" crap......

Nail... Meet Head... You nailed it Crow.. That's how you can tell the "true locals" from the implants.. When I flew up there in April of last year, the Captain got on the mic in the plane and said "Welcome to the Emerald City, etc, etc, etc.." ... I just chuckled "You ain't from here are ya boy?" ....

Seattle will always be the Jet City..

Wichita, KS calls itself the "Air Capitol Of The World" .... I disagree.. Boeing in Seattle employs more folks than Boeing, Cessna and everyone else here in Wichita
