Just had a thought...With Mega at a 1.9 share..Do we expect them to last the whole year? KLNO is tops in the market, and I understand competition, but if the station isn't profitable (because radio is about ratings as far as I know), if Mega flipped to another format could we see a GenX type radio station? What would work in DFW for the long haul?

-I'm just throwing out ideas here and trying to see if anything could stick on that frequency

I believe the most possible format for 107.5, should a flip occur, is a CHR. CBS has recently had good success with new stations to that cume-tastic format with AMP in LA, NOW in NYC and Hot in Houston. It also wouldn't cause any headaches for the rest of their local cluster.

Sure, sure, there already is a second CHR, you say, in i93. But if CBS switched 107.5 to CHR, they could beat i93 within one quarter. Better signal. Better operator. More resources. And likely a much larger promotional push.

It's not hard to assume that even a mediocre CHR could beat what Mega is currently doing.

No joke! I'm in Keller and 93.3 has a very weak signal so I know you'd be right if they decided to go with an AMP Format.

Ooh, a CBS vs. Clear Channel CHR battle! I'd love to see that. i93 (like other Cumulus CHRs) bores me.

But signal-wise, doesn't 106.1 have a stronger signal than 107.5? 105.3, which "has 100,000 watts but doesn't have a lot of listeners" would've been a better choice.

Move The Fan to 107.5 or ditch it all together, make 105.3 CHR to go head to head with Kiss. Cumulus would quickly bow out because they don't have the power to compete.

107.5 is a C1 and 106.1 is a C. 107.5's antenna is actually higher than 106.1 but the power is much less.

Overall, 106.1 is a little stronger, but they are both at Cedar Hill. 107.5, unlike 93.3, is a totally adequate signal.

Agreed for the most part, except when it comes to building penetration, where raw power is the major factor here (99kW for 106.1, 16.5 for 107.5). So KMVK doesn't necessarily have a "totally" adequate signal, although it's quite good when compared with 93.3, which has real problems making it the outer edges of the immediate D/FW area.

This may be off topic a bit. The thread is titled KMVK. But I'd still like to see 1080 simulcast on 105.3 - WBAP & KSKY are AM/FM. Seems like it would help KRLD compete with them if they were.

No, it's not. The season ends with Three Kings Day on January 6th. While the commercialization of December 25 has changed things a lot, on the night of the 5th is when traditionally kids set out straw for the camels and await gifts the next morning.

Pardon that this is not about Radio & also if it's stuff that everyone already knows....

Page Two of this thread is more a debate about: "When is it Christmas ?" which is an interesting topic. Protestant Churches (generally) celebrate Christmas (singing Christmas songs, etc) throughout the Season of Advent. For them Christmas is now over. Catholics started celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve & will continue through January 6th. (The 12 days of Christmas.) (If I remember correctly, Christmas songs aren't sung in Catholic churches before Christmas Eve. They weren't at St. Bernard's or Holy Trinity.)

So, when is Christmas over ? It depends.

On the other hand, some Radio stations play Christmas music from November 1st to New Years.

I don't listen to those stations. ;D

Or change The Fan to Alternative, bring back the old Live 105.3 like the one in San Francisco. Keep Jagger, this could blow the Edge out of the water.

You might want to dial back the hyperbole on X station blowing Y station out of the water. You're seriously underestimating the power of inertia, the power of ingrained habits, etc. To think that just because X station goes on and does some similar format, that hundreds of thousands of people will suddenly flock to the new station is (IMHO) misguided. You've done it here with the Edge, in another thread with i93.

There were plenty of armchair quarterbacks around here that were convinced that the Fan would blow the Ticket out of the water. 100KW FM signal, CBS money, blah blah blah. How's that working out?
