KMVQ...Top 40/CHR reporter????

It's about Time for the station to do this!
;D

"Its about Time for the station to do this!" -- I can't do it; the lack of the apostrophe drives me nuts.

"It's about Time for the station to do this!" -- The inappropriate capitalization? Not so much.

Maybe if enough people think KMVQ is a CHR we won't hear as much crying about the Bay Area lacking a CHR-POP. ;D

Heck, I am happy I live in STOCKTON, since I pick up Two CHR/POP stations: [email protected] OAKDALE/MODESTO and KDND-107.9 THE END SACRAMENTO. But I listen to neither one as I don't care for CHR/POP or even CHR/RHYTHMIC.

HOW IS MOVIN a CHR station?

they should go all old school! like they did on labor day!

I wonder if this is more of an attempt to steal national dollars from Clear Channel. If there is nobody else in the Market that reports CHR/Mainstream, national buys who favor that 18-34 demo mike look favorable at Movin.

Thoughts?

I definitely see Movin 99.7 moving towards a CHR. Due to their low ratings they're slowly changing. They're one of the Rhythmic ACs playing September's "Cry For You", some Pop/Rock titles, and more. They sound totally different from the mess that is Movin 93.9 Los Angeles.

Ultimately, I wouldn't be surprised if in the coming months 99.7 becomes the first Virgin Radio station in the US with a sound similar to that of Virgin 99.9 in Toronto:

Current playlist:

CHR/Pop radio + top notch personalities + great imaging + lots of Adult friendly Rhythmic titles = winning formula for the Bay area?

And if not Virgin Radio what about Toronto's other CHR - Z-103.5. It's not your typical cookie-cutter CHR, just like San Francisco isn't your typical cookie cutter market. It's Dance friendly, has a big city sound, and sounds like a great station for a multi-ethnic market:

The last 50 songs played on Z-103.5:

Both Virgin and Z-103.5 could easily be customized for San Francisco. In fact, Z-103.5 launched a sister station in Halifax of all places last year. Virgin 99.9 is set to launch a very similarly sounding station in Vancouver and Montreal. So, these type of stations could fill the CHR/Pop void for the entire Bay Area (including San Jose) on 99.7's FM super signal.

I dunno...I listened to MOViN in the car for about a half hour earlier this week. Other than one Leona Lewis song I recognized as new, all the music was the regular MOViN hodge-podge of "old school" soul, dance, and lite-rap from the last 3 1/2 decades. To me, "contemporary hits" stations should play at least 50 percent new music to justify using that label.

Star 101.3, and even Alice play more current music than that.

In my day (Yes - the stone age 60s, 70s, and 80s), Top 40 stations played about 75% current hits during drive time - 3 new songs in a row, followed by a re-current or Oldie. During other hours and on weekends, they would often switch to 50% - playing one new hit, then a recurrent or Oldie.

I suspect that stations classify themselves as CHR or AC to gain some demographic advantage, even though they play primarily non-current music. For example, I notice that KBLX and KISQ both have the label "urban AC" even though their playlist is overwhelmingingly "old school."

And now, as of June 2008, you have a rebranding of "Smooth Jazz," now
known as "Smooth AC"...so how much of it will, in time, actually be jazz?:

How much narrower can we go in narrow-casting?
