KMYS TV 35 changing to CW?

KMYS TV 35 in San Antonio, is running a promo announcing that they are changing from the MY whatists network to the CW on August 30th. They were only with MY ntwk for about a year and I forgot what they were before that. I recall that they started out as an independent in 1985(6?) as KRRT, with offices at Ingram/410 and the broadcast tower out at Medina lake. Then KRRT went through a progression of networks, which I don't really remember, due to never actually viewing their junk, since it was mostly soapy, mushy girly sagas/sob fests . Is that MY network going bust or just isn't bringing in the quaatloos for the shareholders? Does this mean another call letter change, which, if so, will be the third time around?

KRRT started as an independent in 1985. In 1987 KRRT became an affiliate of the upstart FOX Nerwork (Fox 35) which lasted from 1987-1995. After the company owning KRRT entered into an LMA with KABB, the Fox affiliation moved to KABB in 1995 at which time KRRT became an affiliate of UPN as UPN 35. The UPN affiliation lasted from 1995-1998 when they switched to become an affiliate of The WB as "San Antonio's WB". That lasted until The WB and UPN merged to become The CW in 2006 at which point KRRT became KMYS and affiliated with My Network as "MY 35".

Maybe they will still broadcast to the Bundesreich Fredericksburg, who are the fortunate few who can actually get a steady picture?

KCWX's LMA to Belo ended earlier this year. They are an independent and have filed to build digital translators on channel 8 in San Antonio and Austin.

Let's hope kcwx could change to an independent station for the austin area(like KVC used to and has a few shows that never aired in the austin area including ThisTV) or a mynetwork tv station(just for the san antonio area) fingers crossed. plus WWE smackdown is moving to cable this fall so the network is just going to have drama reruns and game shows.

well probably they should put KCWX back to cable systems in austin when they lose rights to the CW or isn't gonna be affiliated with MyNetTV if the station doesn't have a choice

KCWX has and always will be a shaky proposition. All the networks are taken in both markets (I can see Sinclair putting MyTV on DT2 in SA to not break the agreement), and being in two markets creates serious SyndEx problems.

well KCWX should change it into a independent station with some classic tv shows/new ones (ala WADL detroit) that are for the san antonio/austin area without any SyndEx problems

a couple of months ago, i recognized that kcwx had 2 translator applications one for austin and one for san antonio and i kind of put a question about kcwx changing networks. away from being a cw affilate station . well someone shot me down. thats why i haven't been posting on this site for a some time.

CW on KCWX never made sense.  Their programming outside of the primetime has nothing to do with the demo CW appeals to.  It's almost like they're trying to chase away teenagers.  You can't play classic TV shows like I Love Lucy, etc. all day and then have The Vampire Diaries and America's Next Top Model in the evening.

KMYS 35 is a much more suitable choice.

Well on air, KCWX brands themselves at "KCWX 2 - Fredericksburg - San Antonio - Austin"

Maybe this means that they will be put back on Austin cable systems when the CW affiliation ends this month. I want to say that the station will become an independent for both markets, but I am not too sure.

The way I see it, KMYS 35.1 will be CW, while 35.2 will house MyNetTV.

Just curious... Do you think it will be 'CW 35' or 'The CW San Antonio'? Because when KRRT (KMYS) was WB 35 they always announced it as 'San Antonio's WB.' I guess since the cable channel was 7.

Other markets that used the '<city name>'s WB' moniker are now using 'The CW <city name>'.

Is Ch 35 really going to broadcast a subchannel? Since the DTV conversion, all of the other SATX locals, except the spanish ones, have 1 or 2 subchannels, with KLRN TV9 having a whopping 4. But KABB TV29 and KRRT/KMYS never bothered to provide any. Are they that cheap? What is taking them so long?

Well... the KMYS website program listings has "35.1 MNTV" and "35.2 OFF AIR" , so maybe this means that the subchannel will be launched soon.

On another forum, someone posted that it's the policy of their group owner, Sinclair, not to use multiple subchannels. Probably because they're cheap.

Sinclair has signed up to put The Cool TV on digital subchannels in most of its markets, so that's an option, too. Maybe MyTV on 35.2 and The Cool TV on 29.2.

if KCWX becomes an independent station for both markets with different shows on 9/1, time warner cable in the austin area could bring the channel back to channel 23 (where it used to be on when it had UPN)
