KNAB AM/FM in Burlington, CO

Just curious to see how many others have worked at this station over the years. This was my first radio job in 1983-84. Fresh out of broadcasting school, I made the trek from Minnesota to eastern Colorado and got my first shot behind the microphone at KNAB.

Anyone else?

Well, not quite the answer to your question, but I actually recall spending a Friday night in Burlington back in 1987 and we were listening to a (not-bad) local jock spin a quite a mix of hit music and handle requests. He was all over the musical map and mixing music saying stuff like "here are some for the guys", followed by a set of rock hits then "here are some for the ladies" followed by a set of dance tunes (a.k.a. Teena Marie, etc.).

Pretty entertaining little station back then and EVERYONE in town had it on at the time. I think I actually snagged an aircheck, in fact.

I had the pleasure of working @ KNAB for 3 and a half years 1974 thru 1977. Know and love Bette who bought the stations in 1991. During my tenure, the property was a 1KW Daytimer, with a PSA. The building was remodeled in 1975, and the old KOGA control board was installed in the new control room, along with a Spotmaster 5 deck. We were all live, all the time, with hourly market reports, Burlington High School Sports, etc. Ray Lockhart, who also owned KOGA in Ogalalla, Ne. bought the TM production package, as well as the " Simple and Free" jingle package. It really dressed it up. I left Burlington to relocate in the East, get educated, and furthered my career managing a number of radio and television stations...but I treasure my time in Colorado spent in "AM" radio. I visit frequently as I am now retired and live in Albany, N.Y.

I spent two years there doing commercial writing and production back in the late 90s. By the time I was there, it was all automated. Adult standards on the AM and country on the FM. Bobby Mays handled the weekday morning stuff and Saturdays and I handled afternoon news and Sundays.

The place has had a notoriously high turnover rate both before and after my time there, from what I was told around town. Last time I spoke to anyone out there, Bobby had taken over a lot of the day-to-day operations as Bette started slowing down. Not sure what things are like out there these days.
