KNAZ planned outage

KNAZ TV DT indicates it will have a planned outage for "maintenance"
lasting 24-36 hours, commencing on Monday, April 8th at 7:30am.
This will leave those of us without satellite or cable unable to watch
NBC programming. I will assume that translator K06AE, will also be
off air as well.

You're probably right about K06AE-D, unless they get permission from the FCC to rebroadcast KPNX, whose signals would be available at K06AE's Mingus Mtn. location. I don't see Gannett going to all of that trouble, just for OTA, as I would imagine that Prescott-area cable headends fed directly via microwave.

KNAZ TV and it's translator K06AE-D continue off the air..........

My guess is that there are zero households in Nielsen's Phoenix DMA sample that receive KNAZ/K06AE-D OTA...if that's the case, I wouldn't expect the stations to be back on the air anytime soon.

Wrong, of course. Cable/satellite penetration is somewhat less than 90%. Given around 350,000 in Yavapai and Coconino counties, which are included in the Phoenix DMA, that's around 35,000 currently without NBC. Perhaps a taste of things to come for us OTA viewers should Gannett find a buyer for KNAZ.

I was referring to the households (probably zero) in Nielsen's sample that receive KNAZ over the air. There's a very big difference between that and how many households actually are capable of receiving said station for free. It just shows how ridiculous Nielsen's methodology is.

Stations target their programming efforts to those who are in the Nielsen sample. If anyone outside of the sample happens to be watching too, that's nice.

In the spirit of holding them their part of the must-carry rules, I'm sure that KNAZ and KO6AE-D will be back on the air at some point - I just don't expect it to be "ASAP" for the reasons described above.

They did indicate they would be back in 24-36 hours........ and I know of about 25 people
personally that only get OTA television. I happen to be one of them............

I believe it. And according to Nielsen, over 90% of households in Yavapai and Coconino Counties have cable and/or satellite, which leaves 10% that are either OTA or zero TV. But there's a very good chance that no one in the OTA portion of their sample is capable of receiving KNAZ.

I'm just trying to point out the ridiculous flaws in Nielsen's methodology, and the unfortunate related fact that stations program themselves to please those in the sample.

And for the record: I live in a "zero TV" household.

KNAZ DT and it translator, K06AE, were back up and running on Friday,
April 12th. There were no apparent changes/upgrades to the video or
audio, which remain very poor.

I recently installed an antenna in Prescott. Much to my pleasure in late April I discovered NBC in high def on 6.1 which rounded out the offerings nicely. However I remounted my antenna and since then the signal has since disappeared, cant figure out if its my installation or otherwise. This thread is the only info I have found. Anyone know, are they doing more maintenance??? channel 2 is a joke.

If you check my thread dated 4/28/14 "KNAZ Flagstaff" you will note that KNAZ and its
Mingus Mtn translator K06AE-D were broadcasting in HD for about 10 days. Since that
time, they are again broadcasting in S.D. Additionally, you may have lost K06AE-D because
it is no longer labeling itself as 6.1 Instead, both physical channel 22 at Mormon Lake and
K06AE-D are both now, once again, labeling themselves as 2.1 You may want to go into
the advanced setting on your television and/or perform a rescan. We may be waiting a
very long time, once again, before we see NBC in H.D., on KNAZ or otherwise.
